Blood Coven Vampires 3
by Mari Mancusi
Sunny annoys Rayne with her decision: should she have sex with Magnus. The twin’s mom announces that her boyfriend, David, will live in one of their rooms while his condo is being renovated.
After being mocked by the cheerleaders, Spider finds Rayne and tells her that Mr. Teifert is looking for her. She finds him, and he tells her that the school’s quarterback, Mike, is missing. The cheerleaders have also been heard growling. He wants her to join the squad and check it out. When she tries to explain the situation is impossible, he tells her that the nano-virus in her is shards of wood that will stake her from the inside. He gives her a hall pass and a week deadline.
Rayne is frustrated with the situation and how much her blood mate has changed since loosing his powers. The beach-bum vampire starts quoting self-help books and Rayne agrees to tryout for cheerleading to stop him.
The next stop on Rayne’s list is Sunny for a makeover. After explaining why, Sunny explains that she will have to acquire the skills and get past Rayne’s ex-best friend, Mandy, who is the cheerleading captain. The thought gives Rayne an idea of how to make her audition stand out.
At tryouts, Rayne meets Cait, who is a really good cheerleader. Rayne is really bad, but after everyone but Mandy leaves, she threatens to post a bad picture of the cheer captain if she and Cait don’t make the team.
Rayne goes to her first cheerleading practice, but didn’t bother to learn any of the movers. She is really bad, so when Nancy starts making fun of her, Shantel sticks up for her and gives her a private session.
Shantel helps Rayne with her stage fright at their first game. Afterwards in the locker room, there is talk of a party at Mandy’s house. Rayne starts to leave, but decides to go back to see about the party. The door is locked and Rayne can hear growling and glass shattering. Rayne mentally calls for vampire help, but when Jareth arrives, the door is already unlocked. The locker room is trashed and they find Cait hiding in a bathroom stall.
Rayne wants to protect Cait, but she already saw the other cheerleaders as human-wolf hybrids in bras and panties. She is bleeding, but it looks like a scratch, which shouldn’t infect her. Rayne wonders if the squad ate Mike. Jareth is going to look for a cure to the lycanthrop virus, and Rayne will report her findings to Mr. Teifert.
All of Rayne’s things have been moved out of her room for David to begin his stay. Rayne fill in Sunny about the cheerleaders being werewolves. They check and see that the next full moon is on homecoming.
Rayne notices that Shantel looks distraught, so she goes to talk to her. Shantel explains that her boyfriend, Trevor, is missing. Rayne changes the subject to Europe and Shantel tells her about the little village they stayed in where they snuck out to party and don’t remember the night. Rayne tells Mr. Teifert and he says they will have to be put down if she can’t find a cure before their next transformation. Rayne heads to the beach to fill in Jareth and they agree to leave for England on Friday.
Cait is terrified of the other cheerleaders during practice. Rayne goes to calm her down and finds the girl in a stall cutting her wrists. Rayne tells her she needs to get help. Many comes in and realizes that Rayne is hiding Cait, so the cheer captain talks about how Rayne blackmailed her. Cait runs out and Mandy tells Rayne she is just as bad as the rest of them with her judgmental attitudes. Rayne catches up with Cait, who is furious with her and tells her to leave her alone.
Still trying to deal with David living with them, Rayne ends up feeling replaced. She makes her mom cry by shoving him after he takes a cheap shot at her dad. Her mom goes to David for comfort and Rayne goes to pack her things.
Rayne is too angry to drive and gets into an accident on her way to the coven. Jareth picks her up and takes her the rest of the way. He tells her that he is going to England to find the werewolf antidote and she needs to see the coven counselor to help with her anger issues. Rayne pretends to agree and asks to have Sunny with her.
After a few hours of hiding in the plane bathroom, Rayne announces her presence to Jareth. He is surprised at first, but realizes quickly that she would never give up. He explains that she must be on her best behavior in the England Coven.
Rayne sleeps through most of the trip. Jareth wakes her up and offers her real blood. She drinks it thinking it is the synthetic she normally drinks. When she realizes it is human blood, she throws a tantrum which continues when she realizes her boyfriend is planning on arriving at the England Coven in a Batman T-shirt. She lashes out at him and he points out that she might be angry at him because he is happy and she isn’t. Rayne apologizes and says she just wants the England vampires to like her.
When they arrive at the coven, Rayne is very disappointed. The girls that greet them are preppy and poke fun at her clothes and accent. When she turns down the blood of Marie Antoinette and asks for synthetic, they laugh at her. Luckily, they have already told them where the wolf pack is because Rayne announces she is a slayer and pulls out her stake to prove it.
Rayne and Jareth are kicked out of the coven and find a barn to sleep in. Rayne doesn’t understand why Jareth won’t forgive her. He explains that she ruined their relationship and could possibly have their coven voted off the counsel. They come up with a plan to use Rayne’s vampire scent to find out about the wolf pack in their local bar.
Strutting into the bar with vampire scent running wild, Rayne instantly finds the wolves and their alpha, Lupine. She explains the cheerleader situation and Lupine tells her it was probably the rouge wolf who had tried to take his place. He says he can have the antidote by morning and she will have to put it on them while they are in wolf form. Rayne asks about the football players. Lupine believes they are being stored by the girls to offer to the rouge.
Rayne returns to the hotel victorious and tells Jareth what is going on. He tells her he can’t be with her and will petition the coven to put her with someone more compatible. She begs him not to leave her, but he’s already gone.
Deciding not to mope around the hotel, Rayne goes to a bar for food and beer. She meets a boy named Orpheus who invites her to a rave. Against her better judgment, she decides to go. They dance the night away. When Rayne is ready to leave, Orpheus instead takes her to his cave and says she is going to be his alpha female.
Orpheus restrains Rayne and doesn’t believe that she is a vampire because she doesn’t seem to have any powers. She sends out a mental cry for help to Jareth, hoping he’s not too mad to come help her.
Orpheus leaves Rayne in the cave while he goes out. It turns out that the missing football players are there. When Orpheus returns, he says that he has to kill them all because Rayne told the Order what he did. Jareth swoops in as a bat in the last minute. He transforms back into vampire form, pulls out a gun, and kills Orpheus. He and Rayne make up, both admitting their mistakes.
Back in town, the pack puts Mike and Trevor into a simulator to make them transform into wolf form so the antidote can be administered. They are sent back home, where they won’t remember anything. Rayne returns home and makes up with her mom, insisting that David stays with them. Even Cait is over her anger at Rayne. She quit cheerleading to get healthy, but was told to come back when she’s ready. Rayne explains to Cait and Sunny how they are going to use a vampire rock star to turn on the cheerleaders, make them change, and spray them with the antidote.
David helps set up power locks, sprinklers with antidote, and gets the twin’s mom out of the house. The cheerleaders arrive under the pretense of a farewell party for Cait. Sunny brings in Race Jameson and the girls start to change. Rayne sets off the sprinklers and they are all cured.
Rayne cheers in the homecoming game and enjoys compliments from her friends and family afterwards. Mr. Tiefert pulls her aside to let her know that Bertha will be taking the slayer position again. Rayne asks to be kept informed. She worries about the threat David mentioned might be coming after their family. Rayne and Jareth are with Sunny and Magnus when they are interrupted by Jane, who the vampire counsel has decided will be Magnus’ blood mate.
