Blood Coven Vampires 5
by Mari Mancusi
The twins sit in their dad’s apartment and listen to their parents explain the truth about their past. Their mom was a fairy princess and their dad was her body guard. They fell in love, but her parents disapproved. They ran away, had their wings surgically removed, and ended up with twins. Heather works in the fairy division of Slayer Inc. and helped them with identifies. When their grandma found them, she promised to leave them alone if their dad left. Their grandma died and now Sunny is supposed to rule.
Sunny and Rayne go to a diner to be alone. Sunny keeps trying to call Magnus, but has no luck. When they get back to the apartment, their parents explain they are going to Fairyland and the twins will stay with Heather. Suddenly, there is a fairy at their window.
The fairies attack and the adults suddenly have swords. They tell the girls to run, but instead Rayne grabs her stake and kills the leader of the fairy army. Their parents protect them, but their mom falls just before their dad blows glittery dust at them and everything goes black.
Rayne wakes up and then so does Sunny. They are wit Heather in a boarding school for potential slayers, which is where they will hide until their parents have worked something out with the fairies. They have no access to their phones.
Sunny can’t stop crying and Rayne ties to comfort her. A girl named Lili comes along to take them to the headmistress and shows them around on the way. Unlike the American division of Slayer Inc., this one is not very vampire friendly (stake first policy). Rayne will have to work hard to fit in, especially since she will be with slayers her own age. Sunny will be in the beginners classes.
On the way back to the dorms, the twins are stopped by the Alphas (five kids at the top of the class with slaying experience). Rayne starts out with an attitude, but has to change her tune when they overpower her. They eventually make it back to their dorm room and Rayne unsuccessfully tries to comfort Sunny, who just wants to be a normal girl. Rayne decides to try kissing her elbows to become a fairy so Sunny won’t have to.
Rayne wakes a reluctant Sunny up in the morning for class. When they get to the field, Sunny is sent inside with the beginners. Rayne is paired up with Corbin (the Alpha leader) for sparring. He attacks when she isn’t prepared and “bites” her. They switch roles and Rayne uses her training to pin Corbin. She has to stop herself from actually bitting him and a bit of her vampire scent escapes. Corbin recovers from the scent quickly and swears his revenge.
During study hall, Rayne decides to use the library to her advantage and research fairies. She finds out how to become one and does the ritual. She ends up falling asleep and is woken up by the janitor. On her way back to the dorm, she tries to take a peek at the ominous “Night School,” but Headmistress Roberta comes along and sends her back to the dorms. Rayne later realizes the bag Roberta was dragging looked like a body and moved.
Rayne wakes up with back pain and when she has Sunny check, they discover her wings are growing. Rayne explains why she did it. Sunny is determined they have to get out of there.
The twins make an attempt at escaping the school, but are caught by the Alphas, who are having a mini-party. Sunny decides to use the opportunity to get information. A lot of the kids have tried to escape (even though they chose to be slayers) and no one has ever succeeded. When Corbin’s past (parents killed by vampires) comes up, he takes off, only returning when something is coming for them.
Fairies attack and the twins and Alpha’s hold them back. Rayne is hurt saving Corbin and he hides her in a cave. He comes back after the fairies leave, excited about his first real battle (all previous were simulations). Rayne uses her scent on him and bites him so she can heal, hoping he will believe the fairies bit him.
The next morning in training, Rayne finds out that she can’t lie. While sparring with Peter (another Alpha) she also realizes that she is getting her vampire powers.
Sunny suddenly seems to be fitting in and crushing on Peter. Corbin pulls Rayne aside into the woods. He keeps getting closer so Rayne asks about his parents. THey were killed in a blood bar and when his grandma died, he was recruited by Slayer Inc. He starts coming on to Rayne again and she drinks his blood to stop him.
Rayne can’t sleep. Sunny comes in late saying she hooked up with a random guy. A meeting is called at the chapel to inform the students of the vampire fairy that bit Corbin. They are going into lockdown and all students will be interviewed.
Everyone is in the library. The twins are with the Alphas, but Rayne is overcome with guilt and leaves. Corbin follows her and comforts her. When he invites her to his room, she tells him she has a boyfriend. She begs for friendship and he accepts. They hug, but then he feels her wings and walks away.
Rayne pulls Sunny away from a random guy to talk in private. She suddenly realizes that her innocent twin was replaced with a changeling the night of the attack. The fairies made a deal with Slayer Inc: Sunny for Rayne. Guardians come to seize Rayne with silver nets.
Rayne wakes up tied down in a lab. Dr. Fraken and Roberta explain their plan to create an army of “vampshees” to take over the world using Rayne’s blood. They wheel in Corbin who will be their Adam to the new race.
After being sedated, Rayne wakes up to find herself chained in a room with Corbin. She tells him the truth and he wants nothing to do with her. She explains that they plan on making him like her. Rayne sends out a psychic call for help and Lili opens the door.
Lili identifies herself as Rachel, Magnus’ former blood donor, who has been working undercover. They get out, but Rayne sets off an alarm on the way. They head to the roof to get into the helicopter, but it only holds two. Rachel directs Rayne to were the Blood Coven is waiting and sacrifices herself so that Corbin can fly him and Rayne out of there.
Corbin gets them safely to where Rayne can call Jareth, who can instantly tell that Rayne has bitten the Alpha slayer. He says that will be an issue, but Magnus comes over before he can explain why. Rayne tells him what is going on and Magnus decides they will rescue Sunny and then take down those responsible at the slay school.
Magnus, Jareth, Corbin, and Rayne hop on a plane to Ireland. While the vampires sleep, Rayne goes to a local bar to ask questions. An old woman pulls her away from the bartender, scolding her for trying to trick him. Rayne explains that she is trying to get to Sunny in Tir Na Nog. The old lady says she is Rayne’s fairy godmother and can help.
After a rant about why fairy godmothers look old, the lady gives Rayne directions to Tir Na Nog. She also mentions Sunny’s wedding dress and Rayne realizes they have to hurry.
Rayne tries to wake Jareth by banging on the door, but has no luck. Corbin invites her into his room. She explains why he has feelings for her. He is torn and pulls out a stake. IN the scuffle, Rayne drinks too much of his blood. Jareth comes at her cry for help and has Corbin make a decision (vampire or death). He chooses vampire. Jareth will have his memory erased when they all get back to the Blood Coven. Rayne agrees to go to rehab.
After Jareth explains the situation to Magnus, Rayne is only allowed to go with them because she is their only hope of finding Fairyland. They get to the cliff and after a little frustration, Rayne is able to make the gate appear. They open it and go inside.
Fairyland is a Disney World replica filled with sunlight. Rayne and Jareth are the only two that can proceed. They get past the ticket booth by telling a dwarf that Rayne is Sunny. They decide to take the tunnels to the castle, but once down there, they are bested by Tinkerbell.
Jareth and Rayne are put in separate cells. Jareth has silver chains on him to keep him down. Rayne’s parents are in the next cell over. Rayne calls out to Magnus for help. She tries to use her vampire scent on the dwarf guard, but has no luck. Francis and Magnus arrive to help them.
Magnus gives Jareth some of his own blood to heal him before sending him back to the real world. They get pieces of the iron bars for the vampires to use as weapons against the fairies.
They run into Apple Blossom (who Rayne had supposedly killed at the beginning of the book) and his fairy guard. Rayne ends up squaring off with him directly. Just as he is about to kill her, her dad throws one of the iron bars through him. Apple Blossom dies, but so does Rayne’s dad (iron poisoning).
They interrupt the wedding, but Sunny doesn’t understand why until Magnus kisses her and breaks the spell she was under. Apple Blossom’s son is taken away fro his part in the conspiracy that killed the queen. The twin’s mom volunteers to lead the fairies and Heather will take care of the twins until they are eighteen.
The twins are reunited at their dad’s funeral. Rayne’s rehab is going well and she had her wings amputated. Sunny decided to keep hers. Magnus are Jareth pull up and inform the girls that Corbin has stolen documents and is trying to get back at Slayer Inc before his memory could be erased.
