Blood Coven Vampires 2
by Mari Mancusi
At school, Rayne is approached by Mr. Teifert, Sunny’s drama teacher. He tells her that she is the next Vampire slayer because Bertha has health issues.
Mr. Teifert tells Rayne that if she decides not to be the slayer, they will activate a nano-virus she was injected with at birth and it will kill her. He shows her the hidden weapons room behind the school theater and gives her a piece of wood to carver her own stake. He explains that Slayer Inc. only takes down bad vampires, and her first mission is to take out Maverick, who owns a bar where humans pay to be bitten. Slayer Inc is happy that Magnus took over, but Maverick wants to take him out. Rayne agrees to do it.
Rayne tells her friend, Spider, what is going on and Spider suggests she tell Sunny. Rayne doesn’t want to take any chances of Magnus and maverick being friends and her getting the nano-virus activated.
On the bad side of town, Rayne coaxes her way into the blood bar and alienates enough people to be put in a waiting room. Sunny finally reads Rayne’s blog and finds out her twin is a slayer, but hopes it is a joke
When a vampire, Jareth, finally comes into the room, he thinks that Rayne is Sunny, sent by Magnus because he doesn’t trust the leader of the Blood Coven army. He storms off to talk to his leader. Rayne decides she needs to dye her hair to distinguish herself from her twin.
As she is about to walk into the house, Sunny calls Rayne over to a limo where Magnus and Jareth are waiting. She explains what happened. Rayne and Jareth start arguing and throwing insults. Magnus thinks they should work together, but Jareth stalks off in anger.
Rayne and Sunny IM from a room away and discuss what happened earlier with Jareth. Sunny then tells her twin their dad is coming in town for their birthday. Rayne was really close with him and gets nervous about seeing him after he left them behind four years ago.
Mom freaks out about the chemicals in the hair dye Rayne used to make her hair black. She notices her mom is dressed up and she tells Rayne that she has a date. A man in a tux picks her up in a limo to go to a fancy restaurant in Boston.
Rayne returns to the bite Bar and asks the bouncer, Francis, what is wrong. He tells her that his blood mate is missing. She tries to assure him that she will show up before she heads in. Rayne is in the room waiting and Jareth comes in completely surprised to see her. After exchanging a few insults, Rayne pulls out her unfinished stake. Jareth laughs and shows her how to carve it. He bites her and she loves the feeling. They head to the post-bite lounge where they spot a couple of his friends’ donors (which violates their contracts).
Rayne gets a glimpse of the man how took her mom out.
Tying to be sneaky, Rayne IMs her twin at two in the morning to talk about their mom. Rayne saw their mom’s dat at the bite bar. She thinks he may be using her to get to Sunny or Magnus. Sunny suggests they use a Lost Boys method of testing the guy to make sure he is a vampire before Rayne tries to stake him.
Rayne starts questioning their mom about her date, who took her (a vegan) to a steakhouse. The twins decide to play sick so they can research how to best get proof that he is a vampire.
When the guy arrives, the girls are afraid that their vampire tests won’t work if they are the ones to let him in. Their mom comes to the door and scolds them for being rude before she invites David in.
Rayne put garlic in her mom’s tofu creation. She and Sunny don cloves of garlic and crosses. David insists he has a garlic allergy, but is able to take a few bites of the meal. Sunny and Rayne run around with water guns filled with holy water and start spraying each other and David. David turns blotchy when he is sprayed and leaves. Sunny finds his jacket and a cheat sheet with information about them and Magnus.
Rayne meets Jareth at Club Fang. She starts dancing and thinks that he joined her, but it turns out to be someone else. They get down to business and he tells her Kristof is sick and his donors are dead. They go to the funeral home and hide in a broom closet to wait for the place to close. They start talking, but someone starts heading towards them. Jareth kisses her in case they are caught, but whoever was walking around leaves. Jareth apologizes, but Rayne doesn’t really mind. They get to one of the donor girls and take a blood sample. Jareth takes her home and they awkwardly say goodnight. Rayne talks to Spider about her new found feelings for Jareth.
Keeping up with her blog, Rayne posts how excited she is that her dad is coming to visit for their birthday. However, he doesn’t end up coming and Rayne posts about how she waited up all night for him. There are some rude comments and she decides to stop blogging and goes back to an old fashioned diary.
Rayne meets Mr. Teifert for slayer training. He shows her how to concentrate and use her stake to give her power. She tells him what she and Jareth (who has given Slayer Inc. trouble in the past) have learned. He wants a sample of the virus so they can make an antidote before the whole coven is infected through their donors and Maverick tries to take over.
Having a rough day and wallowing in self pity, Rayne runs into her jock enemy, Mike, at school. They hurl insults back and forth. mike spits on her and walks away. Rayne attacks him and they are sent to the principal.
Mom wants to talk to Rayne about why she has been acting out. Rayne shuts her out until she finds out her mom is going out with David again. She tells her the truth, vampires and all. Mom decides to take her changes, but to send Rayne to see a shrink again.
After school (and detention), Rayne goes to her room and cries until her mom shows up at the door to announce that Jareth is there to see her. He comes into her room and Rayne tries to act nonchalant. However, he sees through this and comforts her while she opens up to him. Jareth kisses her. She returned the sentiment until she believes that he will hurt her. He takes her dancing and she knows she loves this vampire that seems to have a mind just like her own.
Jareth takes Rayne to the blood bar. She goes in the front door to talk to Francis. He says his blood mate is sick and she decides to tell him everything. He wants to help and tells her the biters were forced to take mandatory “vitamin” shots.
Francis is able to get uniforms and a key card for Rayne and Jareth. They go to the basement and find the lab. There are vials in a large refrigerator, but when Rayne goes to grab some, an alarm goes off. Jareth tells her to take them and run to Magnus. She starts to, but runs into Maverick. She pulls out her stake.
Maverick easily defeats Rayne. He chains her to a chair, bites her and infects her with the virus. He then lets her go because Magnus’ donors are already infected with the virus (lured by the promise of blood-mates). Rayne will die in three days. She summers her slayer power and kills Maverick.
Rayne asks Jareth to take her to the ocean and explains that she is dying. Jareth explains that his whole family was turned at the same time. He cast a counsel vote for Slayer Inc to police the vampires. When they made a rule of not allowing child vampires, they came for his younger siblings. He was the only survivor. Rayne understands why he hated her. THey profess their love for each other.
The virus takes hold of Rayne. She wants to see Jareth, but hasn’t since the night on the beach.
Rayne lies dying and miserable. He mom has taken her to several doctors with no results. Slayer Inc works towards a cure. Rayne is furious that her dad and Jareth haven’t come to see her.
Jareth arrives with Rayne’s dad. She tells him how she feels and he apologizes, explaining that he was scared. She forgives him.
Jareth tells Rayne that they have not found a cure, but if he bites her, they will both be powerless vampires (rather than dead). He had their DNA tested and they are compatible blood mates. She agrees and he bites her.
Rayne and Jareth are now more like immortal humans since they lost all vampire powers and side affects. They are doing great and Rayne is mostly retired from slaying... until Mr. Teifert pulls her aside to tell her Mike has gone missing and the cheerleaders are growling.
