Back at home, Violet starts up her treatment for dealing with the body she found not being laid to rest and finds a not from Jay. He misses her and she falls asleep thinking of him.
The next morning, Violet’s mom questions her about her job and its safety. Violet reassures her before heading off to school. In gym class, they go through basketball drills, which she is extremely bad at. There is an interruption that the teacher has to attend to and Chelsea hits Violet’s partner, Jacqueline, in the face for being mean to her friend. Jay skips part of Chemistry to talk to Violet and she tanks him for the note.
A man sits at a cafe glancing occasionally at the girl behind the counter. He notices that he has purple nail polish under one of his fingernails that he missed during cleanup. The girl and him make eye contact and smile at each other. He decides to come back later to try to talk to her, wondering if it is too soon after his recent breakup to start a new relationship.

She likes Sam, though doesn’t know him well. Krystal and her seemed to instantly click. Gemma gives her the cold shoulder and icy stares. Lastly, Rafe makes her uneasy with their electric touch. She doesn’t tell him all of this, but just says that she is fine. He gives her pills to help her sleep. Violet goes to visit Jay after he gets off work. He expresses his concern over Rafe having a special bond and feelings for Violet. Also, that he can’t take her pain away when she finds a body. Violet kisses him and explains that he makes her feel normal, which is good,
The man waits for the girl from the cafe to go out to her car, which he knows won’t start. He offers to call a tow truck and wait with her. She unlocks the passenger door and he gets in and drugs her with a white cloth until she is unconscious. He takes her to his car and kisses her. He believes she is his and he is showing his love.
After school, Violet goes to the Center for Sara to tell the team about the girl that was found in the freezer and the killer dubbed “the collector” (prepares bodies for preservation and dresses them up). Sara has the team members with psychometry go through a box of her personal items, but informs them that the girl’s house is off limits. Rafe pockets her house keys and Krystal calls him out on it when they are alone with Violet. Her curiosity gets the better of her and she agrees to go to the house with them.
The man has the girl tied up to a bed and tries to show his love. She tries to scream, and he leaves without giving her food or water to calm himself. He’s hurt.
Rafe opens the door to the girl’s house. Krystal follows him in and so does Violet after some hesitation. Rafe finds something in a romance novel in the girl’s room. They are discovered by a police officer and Violet is able to get a piece of paper from the book before handing it over. They wait at the police station for Sara, who Rafe instructed the cops to call. A boy with a lot of new imprints threatens Violet when she can’t stop starring. Rafe does his best to protect her. Sara shows up and explains to the officer what is going on. Sara asks Violet if she’d be willing to see the heavily imprinted boy again. Violet agrees and Rafe insists on being there.
Violet goes for an early morning run to clear her head. When she gets back, her dad is frustrated by the amount of times her friends called because they took away her cell phone. At school, she explains the situation to Jay, who points out that it could’ve been much worse.

Jay drives off and Violet goes to see what Rafe wants. he tells her that they are supposed to go see the boy who threatened her. Rafe offers her a ride on his motorcycle, but she refuses and drives separately.
Sara, Rafe, and Violet go to see the boy, James Nua, behind glass. Sara needs reassurance that they are okay and gives Rafe something. Violet senses five or six imprints of echoes and says she needs to see the bodies. James is taken out of the room while they are in the hall. He calls Violet “White River” (the name of her school). At the morgue, she asks Rafe what Sara gave him. He teases her until she walks away and points out the refrigerated units that hold James’ girlfriend and their two kids, who he killed. Rafe holds James’ cross necklace and they leave.
The man is feeling lonely and angry about his mother, who can’t hurt him anymore. He climbs into bed with his drugged girlfriend.
Violet has trouble sleeping, but is trying to avoid the sleeping pills Dr. Lee gave her. Rafe calls her late at night to tell her that another girl has gone missing. Krystal heard someone tell her in a dream that he dropped a ring in the victim’s room. Violet takes a pill and sleeps. In the morning, Jay drives her to the Center. While she is talking with Sara and Rafe, Gemma invites Jay in and reads his palm. Violet get him out of there, reminding herself that Jay doesn’t know that Gemma has it out for her.
As the girl pounds on everything and screams herself house, the man watches. He prepares her food and decides to go out for some air, wondering if this is the girl for him.
The next morning, Violet wakes up clutching her school hoodie and finds the piece of paper inside - a receipt from a cafe. Her parents left her cell phone for her and she runs to school late. Jacqueline is at their lunch table to invite Jay to a party, but he has to work. Chelsea, Jules, and Claire all accept, but Violet declines. She wonders if Jay would be better off with a normal girl like Jacqueline. After school, Violet goes out to the Mecca Cafe in the University district. There are pictures of employees, but none of them are the missing or dead girls. She buys a drink, walks out, and runs into Sam. They go for coffee and he tells her that he, boy genius, is a student at the University. He tells her Rafe has precognitive abilities and that he likes Violet. She worries that Jay is right.
The collector sees a familiar girl on his walk, the one who was there in the crowd when they found his ex-girlfriend. She is not his usual type, but she intrigues him. He follows her.
Back at home, Violet reads through the paper she bought downtown earlier. She sees an article about the missing girl and recognizes the Cafe Mecca. She calls Rafe and tells him to meet her there the next day. Jay arrives to surprise her with pizza and ice cream.
After breakfast with her friends, violet meets Rafe at the Mecca Cafe. She finds Casey’s recommended drink on the wall by matching the picture to the one in the newspaper. Rafe agrees with Violet’s idea that the collector might have gotten both girls from the same cafe. They leave to tell Sara, but Violet stops when she feels the tingle of an echo. She is brought out of her trance when she hears a crash. She rushes to Rafe, who was flung off his motorcycle by a sedan.
Violet Waits at the hospital. Sara arrives and they let her back to see Rafe because she is his sister. Their relationship suddenly makes sense to Violet. Gemma comes in and explains that she is empathic. The reason she doesn’t like Violet is because she reeks of death. Sara comes out and says that Rafe is fine and has asked to see Violet. She goes back and when he wakes up, he calls her Sophie, which he doesn’t seem to remember when she asks. He asks her to stay with him a while and to visit the next day at his house. Violet agrees before going to see Krystal. She asks her about talking to the dead and they seem to cheer each other up.
The collector tries to keep taking care of the girl, Casey, but she is already dead.
On her way to visit Rafe the next day, Violet stops at the center. Sara gives her some background on Rafe’s past. He had a vision that his girlfriend, Sophie, and her family were in trouble from her father. He arrived too late and they were already dead. Rafe ran away from their aunt and uncle’s after their mom died and started living with Sara. He was figuring out her FBI cases before she was and the agency saw potential. they helped Sara get funding for the Center. Sara explains that Gemma was passed through abusive foster homes until she learned a secret she couldn’t keep. Sara and Rafe took her in.
As Violet is leaving the center, she senses imprints of echoes. She tires to make it up the steps to the intercom, but James Nua gets her and drags her to the alley. He has a knife to her throat, knowing she is the one that told the police what he did. Sara comes to her rescue and shoots James. Two boys pull up and start firing from their car. James is able to get away.
Sara checks out Violets injuries while they wait for the police. Violet is shaken up and calls Jay to come get her. When he arrives, they embrace and he makes her laugh. Sara explains that they will catch him, but Violet suddenly sees the imprint appear on Sara and knows James is dead. She tells her boss.
The collector meets his mother at a fancy restaurant after she returns from four years of vacationing in Europe. he tries to impress her, but only gets torn down by the hateful woman with lilac nail polish.
Jay takes Violet home and convinces her to take her prescribed sleeping pills. When she wakes up in the morning, Jay is gone and her mother expresses her concern about Violet being on the team. She also tells her daughter that the found Casey in a warehouse.
Violet goes to talk to Dr. Lee about how she feels about the team. She asks him who he works for and he tells her the Center.
The man returns to the restaurant where the waitress showed interest. She is too confident and he dismisses her. he decides on the girl he has been following: Violet.
Uncle Stephen and Aunt Kat are at the house when Violet gets home. She takes her cousins to the park. Cassidy scares her by climbing a ladder to a bigger slide than she should. Later that night, Violet sulks because her parents won’t let her stay on the team.
Violet goes to visit Rafe. They start out joking around, but the conversation starts to get intense. Gemma comes in and calls them “love birds,” so Rafe takes Violet to his room. She sees a picture of Sophie and asks about her. He admits that she also shocked him when they touched, just like Violet does. He wants to keep her away because he knows how she feels, but he admits that he can’t stay away.
Back at home, Violet listens to a message Sara left for her parents explaining that James Nua’s brother is seeking revenge on Sara. Violet deletes it and goes about her night alone waiting for Jay. Rafe calls to tell her about his vision that led them to the collector, Caine. All alone, she thinks that she is getting sick or paranoid from the message. she takes a knife with her to check the scratching at the front door that turns out to be the cat. When she gets to the kitchen, the back door is wide open and her purse is there. The collector is there for her. She tries to fight him off with no luck.
Violet is held captive in a place that is different from where Rafe described. She drifts in and out of sleep and realizes that the soup she is fed is drugged. She remembers Rafe saying that Caine is looking for love, so she makes her best attempt at being friendly and he seems to buy into it.
Caine is frustrated with not being able to take Violet to his own place. He is in a secluded place his mother loved and he hates. However, he seems pleased with Violet so far.
Caine crawls into bed with Violet and sleeps. Shortly after, Violet decides to make her escape. She finds a phone in the kitchen, but the cord is gone. She grabs a jacket and some socks and decides to take her chances in the pitch black outdoors. She runs to the woods, but falls over Caine’s trap (wire that cuts her shins). She cries out in pain, which wakes up her captor. She keeps going with him following close behind. Eventually she finds an extremely old barn and decides to rest.
Caine is upset with himself for being tricked. He finds a piece of the nightgown Violet is wearing and knows he’s on the right track.
Violet wakes up and knows Caine has found her. She moves around the tack room, looking for a weapon. She finds a pitchfork right before he finds her. She tells him to drop the flashlight and it shatters. She can sense his imprints, but he can’t see anything. Violet knows he is blocking both exits so she makes her way up to the loft. After trying and failing to fix the flashlight, Caine follows. She bides her time in a corner, waiting to get back down the ladder using his imprints as a guide. She makes it part of the way down before he grabs her hair from the top of the loft and starts pulling her back up. She grabs his hair and pulls him down.
Exhaustion is getting to her as Violet walks as much as she can down the road listening to the tinkling music of Caine’s echo. Her Uncle Stephen comes with the police and she tells him she killed Caine.
As her parents pull up the driveway, Violet sees Krystal and Jay’s cars. Jay greets her first and then Rafe comes out. He had tired to call and warn her, and he is upset that he wasn’t the one to save her. When he grabs her hands, she feels the shock, but tells him she can’t. He knows and lets her go back to Jay, who has been watching the exchange.
Caine came to Krystal to tell her where Violet was. Violet quit the team, but Dr. Lee wants to meet still. she finds it odd that he asked for a park near her home and odder still that one of the children playing looks like her cousin. Dr. Lee explains that her aunt brings Cassidy there everyday to play. He continues to tell her that he works for powerful people. The doctor then explains that he is threatening her to stay on the team and not to tell anyone about their conversation.
