House of Night 4
P.C. and Kristin Cast
Zoey is walking back from brushing Persephone at the stables when she feels something in the air above her. She swats at it and it hurts her hand. She runs inside the nearest door and looks out the little window. She calls on fire to eliminate the strange mist that attacked her hand. She looks at it and sees she has welts where it scratched her. She gets the feeling that she shouldn’t be there alone and goes to find her friends even though they are mad at her. Zoey makes her way through the cafeteria to sit with her friends. She asks how they are doing and the twins instantly reply with cries of how they can’t be trusted. Zoey turns her attention to Damien to ask about the weird ghost-like thing she encountered earlier. He says he hasn’t heard of anything like it. Zoey goes to show them the welts on her hand, but they are gone. Jack joins them shortly after and is awkward knowing his boyfriend is mad at Zoey. Aphrodite, who has recently become human again, walks into the room and loudly flirts with Darius, one of the Sons of Erebus.
As Aphrodite comes to join their table, Zoey is surprised to see the mark is back on Aphrodite’s forehead marking her as a fledgling. The twins instantly start pestering her and Zoey tries to put a stop to the bickering. Suddenly, the doors open and a dozen or so cats come flying in. They are followed by a large labrador retriever and then a boy named Stark. Dragon and Lenobia follow him in and tell him he can’t keep the dog. He tells them the Chicago House of Night he transferred from got used to her and so will they. Neferet comes in and confirms Stark and his dog, Duchess, will stay and have access to the archery range at all times. He makes it a point that he won’t compete and Neferet is fine with that. The priestess looks to Damien to show Stark around. She also tells Zoey and the other Prefects that they will meet soon. Zoey takes the opportunity to let Neferet know that Aphrodite is also a Prefect because she has an affinity for air. Neferet warns her that she will be responsible for Aphrodite’s actions.
After Zoey introduces everyone, Damien takes Stark to get his lunch. Aphrodite excuses her self and asks Zoey to come to her room before the ritual. The twins decide to include Zoey in their conversation about the new kid. She is relieved they are acknowledging her. Jack suddenly realizes Stark was formally known as James Stark and is known for his skill at archery. He has won several competitions, including against adult vampires. They are all staring at Stark and they start talking about archery. When Stark asks about her tattoos, she realizes he must be in the same situation she is with archery. She changes the subject, but has to excuse herself to go meet Aphrodite. As she walks away from her friends, she remembers being attacked earlier. She asks one of the Sons of Erebus to walk her back to her dorm and give her the names of the Sons that will be stationed at their dorm so the girls can get to know them. Zoey still feels like she is being watched.
Zoey is about to open her door when Aphrodite pulls her into the dorm room. Zoey starts asking a bunch of questions, but Aphrodite stops her so they can open the window and let Stevie Rae in from her climb up the wall. Aphrodite explains that Neferet sent out a mass message to let the fledglings know that winter break is over. She had to take down the wards to allow for the massive flow of returning students. Aphrodite used to opportunity to sneak them both in to talk to Zoey. She wipes off the drawn on mark off her forehead. Stevie Rae notices that her stuff is gone and Zoey promises they can get it back for her. The newly turned red vampire isn’t getting along with Aphrodite and points out that she is not a normal human. Aphrodite is still getting visions. She says she saw the vampires and humans killing each other because Zoey died.
Aphrodite tries to explain her vision in more detail so they can prevent it from happening. She describes odd shadows floating around and Zoey tells them about being attacked earlier. Aphrodite says she saw Zoey die in two different ways. The first was a drowning and Stark was there. She felt safe with him. Zoey realizes they don’t know what happened since Aphrodite left. Zoey explains how Loren used her at Neferet’s request to separate her from her friends. Aphrodite tells them the second way she saw Zoey dying was alone. There is a dark figure and Neferet uses a curved blade to behead her from behind. Aphrodite points out that either way, Zoey has to get her friends back on her side. They already know about Stevie Rae being undead, and Neferet hasn’t been able to pick it out of their minds. Aphrodite is optimistic and decides that as long as they keep Zoey alive, they can prevent the war between vampires and humans.
The conversation turns to Stevie Rae and the other undead vampires. She has been watching over them and thinks she is helping them adjust to their new lives. She seems to be to them what a normal vampire is for a blue fledgling. Zoey suggests they move out of the tunnels, but Stevie Rae says it feels right for them to be underground. She still can’t go out in the sun. She had a piece of her arm burned and had to mind control her way into a blood bank to get bags of blood to heal herself. Stevie Rae explains that she can’t leave her fledglings alone to long. She offers to take Aphrodite with her, but Aphrodite points out that she has to stay and watch out for Zoey. Stevie Rae climbs out the window and back down the wall. Aphrodite tells Zoey that her best friend has changed whether she wants to admit it or not. Zoey says she will not give up on her friend no matter what. They agree that they have both done stupid things in their past, but are now becoming friends. Aphrodite redraws the mark on her forehead and they get ready to go to the ritual together. Zoey opens the door and runs into Damien, Jack, and the twins.
Aphrodite has them all come into Zoey’s room. She tells them about Zoey dying in her visions because she was abandoned by her friends. She also go on to tell them adult vampires can’t read Zoey or her thoughts. When the twins point out that they don’t trust Zoey, Aphrodite points out it means they don’t trust Nyx. They all suddenly start to realize why Zoey has been so secretive. They all agree to stick together. After Damien, Jack, and the twins leave, Aphrodite points out that Zoey will need to get them permission to leave the school grounds periodically so they can check on Stevie Rae and her fledglings. She then drags Zoey to her own room and pulls out a green candle. She wants to see if she still has her affinity for earth.
Aphrodite is upset that she has lost the affinity for earth. Zoey knows it is somehow part of Nyx’s plan. She asks Nyx to show Aphrodite a sign to prove she hasn’t been abandoned by her goddess. Nyx appears between them. She tells Aphrodite she was just holding the earth affinity for Stevie Rae until her humanity was healed. Aphrodite is so full of humanity that she had to be the one to help her. Zoey asks for answer, but Nyx says she gifted her people with free will and that they must choose their own path. She will never take away powers she has gifted, so they must be careful. She warns Zoey that Neferet is no longer listening to her but to another voice. She disappears shortly after.
Damien has saved seats for Zoey and Aphrodite at the large round table in the council room. When Neferet enters, she seems nervous. Another vampire enters behind her and Damien writes down that Shekinah is the high priestess of all vampires. She immediately states there will not be a war against humans. She is upset that Neferet didn’t give the human police a chance to find and punish their own before her declaration. She asks Zoey’s opinion. Zoey says she knows an honest policeman. Neferet is furious, but Shekinah is not willing to throw away centuries of peace with humans over a few religious zealots. Neferet asks Ate, the leader of the Sons of Erebus, if he would stand by. Shekinah tells her it is unfair to put in in a position against the Council of Nyx. She scolds Neferet, who then admits that she is too close to the situation and removes herself.
Shekinah continues the meeting. Zoey points out that they shouldn’t isolate themselves and wants to start her work with the Street Cat organization. Ate says it is too dangerous for fledglings to go out on their own, but Aphrodite points out that their marks will be covered. Darius, one of the Sons of Erebus, agrees to cover his own marks to go with them and make sure they are safe. After they are all dismissed from the meeting, Aphrodite excuses herself from the group saying Zoey is going to take her to the Street Cats meeting. Zoey recognizes that Aphrodite wants to talk and agrees after she is gone. Damien and the Twins all agree they understand why Zoey didn’t tell them what was going on. Erik comes in and sees their group. He is friendly to his former roommate, Jack, and the rest of the group, but kind of emotionless towards Zoey. He leaves them to go unpack his thinks in the Professor’s living quarters.
The group is in the cafeteria talking about Stark and they ask Zoey what she thinks of him. She points out that he is probably reserved because he doesn’t really know anyone, but everyone will make a big deal about his archery talent. Damien walks Zoey to the stables before going to join everyone else for a movie marathon. Before she gets to Persephone, Zoey hears a sound coming from the field house. She goes in to see Stark shooting arrow after arrow into the same spot in the same target. He turns to let her know he knows she is there. She realizes that he looks paler than earlier. He tells her his gift is that he can’t miss, but his mark isn’t always where he aims. He tells her he killed his mentor and best friend, William Chidsey, the best archer in the world for the last two hundred years.
Stark talks about how he was in the Summer Games for archery against his friend, Will. He wanted so badly to win that he was concentrating on it too hard. When he let his arrow fly at the target, it ended up landing in Will’s chest instead. He tested his gift after that and focused shooting a picture of a caboose. The arrow disappeared and when he checked the train passing the next day, it was sticking out of the train car. Zoey stays calm and optimistic about the situation and says they will figure it out. She asks why he transferred. He tells her that Neferet requested him and he didn’t hold any ties to the Chicago location. He kisses her hand before she turns to go take care of Persephone. Before she makes it out the door, Stark starts coughing. Zoey considers running for help, but turns back and goes to Stark. He tells her he regrets not kissing her, so she kisses him. He makes her promises to take care of Duchess and not to forget him. She tells him that fledglings sometimes come back from death as a new type of vampire. He says he will come back for her and Duchess. Damien, Dragon, Aphrodite, and the twins walk in to find Stark dead in Zoey’s arms.
Aphrodite is the first to get to Zoey. When Jack enters the field house, he starts taking care of Duchess. When Neferet arrives, Zoey sees the excitement on her face when she is told Stark died. Zoey is disgusted. Aphrodite insists Zoey goes to her room to use the special shower she had installed. When the twins argue that Zoey go to her own room, Aphrodite reminds them that was where she went to wash blood off of herself when Stevie Rae died. When Zoey comes out, Aphrodite has a greasy cheeseburger waiting for her. They make plans to meet Stevie Rae at the Street Cats meeting. Aphrodite will distract Darius while Zoey meets with her. Alone in her room, Zoey can’t help thinking about Stark. She knows if he survives, she will have to tell him about her past. She sends a text message to Heath to see if he is okay. She decides that if she doesn’t hear from him the next day, she will call him. She falls asleep hearing the raven.
When Aphrodite comes to her door the next morning, Zoey is almost ready to leave. Aphrodite goes to tell Darius they are running a bit late. Zoey calls Stevie Rae and tells her to meet them at Street Cats. She quickly covers her mark. The twins offer her breakfast, but she has to turn it down to get out of there. They suggest a flea market to raise money for the charity. Zoey quickly goes to Shekinah to tell her who she is taking with her and asks about the flea market idea. Shekinah agrees with both choices. She tells Zoey they will be doing a cleansing ritual by the east wall. She wants Zoey and her group to lead the ceremony. Zoey agrees and walks away wondering how she is going to pull it off.
When Zoey gets in the car, she tells Aphrodite that they will have to cast a circle at midnight on New Years Eve. Unfortunately, they can’t get into it with Darius there. They get to the Street Cats building and go inside. Sister Mary Angela greets them. They explain they want to volunteer their services to the charity to keep involved with the community. Sister Mary Angela thinks it is a good idea (believes Nyx is Mary). When Zoey is surprised by how accepting the nun is of the vampire/fledglings, Sister Mary Angela reminds her not to judge others. Aphrodite and Darius go to help other nuns clean litter boxes and brush fur. Zoey starts inventory on a new shipment of cat toys in the store. When Stevie Rae shows up, Sister Mary Angela asks if she is a vampire as well. Zoey indicates she is and the nun goes back to her own work. Zoey greets her best friend.
After Sister Mary Angela scolds them for socializing, Zoey and Stevie Rae get back to work with the inventory. Zoey fills Stevie Rae in on what has been going one and explains their difficulty with the circle they are going to have to cast without her. Stevie Rae suggests she hides near Aphrodite to give the appearance that she has the earth affinity. Zoey suggests they forego the hiding and just have Stevie Rae be there. Stevie Rae isn’t completely comfortable with the idea and asks if she should bring her fledglings. Zoey tells her to do whatever makes her the most comfortable and understands if she doesn’t want to do it at all. Stevie Rae gets a call from Venus and she tells them not to eat the pizza delivery guy. Zoey hopes she is joking.
Stevie Rae explains they order pizza and give them the address of one of the nearby buildings. They then alter the deliver guy’s mind so that he forgets about them. She knows it is stealing, but argues that it is better than eating people. After Stevie Rae leaves, Zoey realizes she and Aphrodite have to get back to school for the rest of their classes. She goes to get Aphrodite and Darius. She finds them together playing with Aphrodite’s new cat, Maleficent, who no one else could touch. Sister Mary Angela says the Council reluctantly agreed to the flea market (some members are from the People of Faith). She thinks the House of Night and Street Cats will be a perfect working combination and schedules Saturday for their volunteer day. Zoey plans to work out the details with their High Priestess and let the nun know their schedule. They stop for greasy chicken on their way back to the House of Night.
Zoey fills Aphrodite in on what Stevie Rae said about Stark becoming a red fledgling. Aphrodite offers to get her a nanny cam so she can watch the morgue on the portable monitor. Zoey then tells her that Stevie Rae is going to step into the earth spot in the ritual. She is hoping having Shekinah will help keep Neferet from using the red fledglings for her own evil plans. Zoey tries to tell Aphrodite about the bad feelings she has been getting about Neferet, but Aphrodite hasn’t noticed any bad feelings of her own. Suddenly, Heath walks in with a girl, Casey. He comes over to tell Zoey that it felt like a piece of his soul died when she broke their imprint. Casey is just a friend (was also Zoey’s friend in the past) and convinced him to come out. He tells her he didn’t just love her because of the imprint, and he never wants to see her again.
After a quick stop at Radio Shack, Darius takes Zoey and Aphrodite back to school. Zoey ends up being late to her new drama class. Cole (dating Shaunee) greets her and when she answers, Erik calls her up as a volunteer. He tells her they are going to improvise the scene from Othello where Othello confronts Desdemona about cheating on him. They start reading the scene and then when they improvise, it slides more towards their own issues with each other. Zoey is attracted to him and ends up kissing him at the end instead of pretending to die.
Zoey wants to talk to Erik after class, but he sends her on her way and slams his office door to keep her out. Zoey starts walking and find herself staring at the darkness and hearing a raven. She yells at the darkness to come get her so that she has something to fight. Darius appears and tells her something is wrong with Aphrodite. He grabs her arm and moves her to the entrance of the girls dorm within seconds. Zoey goes to Aphrodite’s room and finds her lying on the bed with her new cat. Her eyes are blood red and she complains about how much more this vision hurt than the others. After helping her friend, Zoey goes to get the poem Aphrodite copied down from her vision. It talks about the earth bleeding, Queen Tsi Sgili, and Kalona. They are not sure what it means, but Zoey recognizes the hand writing as her grandmothers.
After comparing the writing to the latest card Sylvia had sent, they confirm the writing is Zoey’s grandmother’s. Aphrodite says her vision had a woman sitting in a pasture on a white quilt. When she say the poem, she became completely focused on it and wrote it down. Then she told Darius to go get Zoey. Since the poem doesn’t make any sense to either of them, they decide to call Sylvia. Once they read her the poem, she tells them they need to smudge to cleanse around them before they start talking about the Cherokee demons Tsi Sgili and Kalona.
Zoey goes to her room to get her smudge stick. After they have the smoke from it rolling around them, Sylvia tells tells them about the Tsi Sgili. They are evil witches that can kill with their mind. However, they are supposed to be solitary and not have a queen. She compares Kalona to an angel. When angels used to walk the earth, Kalona appeared to the Cherokee people. He started sleeping with maidens and became obsessed with it. When the woman started to turn from him. The children of the women he raped became the Raven Mockers. Zoey tells Sylvia about the attack that scratched her hand. Sylvia says it is odd because Raven Mockers do not have physical form and are usually only able to annoy those near death. The wise women of the Cherokees met deep in a cave to prevent Kalona from hearing them. They created a maiden, Ay-a, and brought her to life with their own blood. They used her to lure Kalona into the cave. When he penetrated her, the wise women were able to seal him in the earth. The Raven Mockers started singing a song about how Kalona would return one day for his revenge. The poem is actually their song that has been lost over the generations. Sylvia believes it is a warning that Kalona is about to return for his revenge on women.
All three woman agree it is a dangerous time. Aphrodite suggests Sylvia join them at the house of night and Zoey insists. Sylvia starts getting ready. Aphrodite sends Zoey to update her friends, talk to Shekinah about her grandmother staying there, and setting up the nanny camera in the morgue. Zoey gathers her friends and they all meet in Aphrodite’s room. They start to decipher the prophecy stanza by stanza. They decide the Tsi Sgili queen could be Neferet, but decide to just call her the queen. They are not sure if she is responsible for the deaths of Professor Nolan or Loren, but think that has been feeding off them. They think Kalona is whispering to her and convincing her to free him. They think some sort of sacrifice will be needed to release him.
As the group starts to analyze the second stanza, Zoey starts to think it is describing Stevie Rae as the Tsi Sgili. She mentions it might be her best friend or one of the other red fledglings. She then has to stop and explain that all of the fledglings that have died recently are still technically alive. Everyone agrees that Stevie Rae couldn’t be evil, but think it is a possibility one of the red fledglings could be. Everyone is terrified at how much the world is changing. Zoey tells them it has to change to grow and become better, which seems to encourage them. Damien and Jack start coming up with a plan for a diversion so Jack can set up the camera in the morgue. The twins decide to make more smudge sticks to cleanse all of their rooms. Aphrodite points out that if they try to avoid Neferet, she will become suspicious and look even closer at their minds. She tells them to focus on meaningless things while around her. Zoey agrees. Everyone goes their separate ways.
On her way to see Shekinah, Zoey is can hear and smell the Raven Mockers around her. One grabs her from behind and puts its beak around her throat. She thinks it is about to kill her by slitting her throat so she calls out to spirit to send help. She hears Damien voice on the wind and he uses air to push the Raven Mocker away from her. A mark is left across Zoey’s neck. She uses more wind to push all the Raven Mockers away from the school. She thanks and releases air. Zoey cloaks herself in mist and then makes her way to the council room to talk to Shikinah. Neferet is already there and twisting Zoey’s life to make it seem like she is the evil force that has come to the school. Shekinah doesn’t seem convinced. Suddenly, there is a ruckus outside as Duchess chases Maleficent and Beelzebub (the twin’s cat). Aphrodite and the twins chase the animals while Damien comes in to get Neferet for her help.
Zoey doubles back and makes herself visible before approaching the council room again. She knocks on the door and Shekinah welcomes her in. Zoey tells her about the success of their Street Cats charity work and their future plans. She then asks about her grandmother coming to visit since winter break was cut short. Shekinah tells her all the guest rooms are full, so Zoey suggests Sylvia stays with her in her dorm room. Shekinah warns her not to ask for too many favors because she is special. Zoey tells her this is only the second thing she has asked for since she came to the House of Night (the first was for some of Stevie Rae’s things when she died). On her way out to the parking lot to meet her grandmother, Zoey runs into Erik. He is cold at first and she tries to explain that he embarrassed her and didn’t know the whole story when he found her. He starts to warm up to her, but when she suggests he come to help her carry her grandmother’s things in, he asks a Son of Erebus, Stephan, to help Zoey and leaves her there with him. As he walks her out, Stephan tells Zoey she has nothing to be afraid of. He carries Sylvia’s things as the women walk together. Sylvia tells Zoey the school is surrounded by the ravens, and Zoey tells her how she blew them out. They agree the Raven Mockers are starting to get their bodies back.
Sylvia is filled in on what has been going on. She tells everyone they will need their rest and sends them all off to bed. Zoey offers to have Aphrodite stay in her room that night, but Sylvia points out it might seem odd to Neferet. She gives Aphrodite a dream catcher and a candle to light while she is sleeping for protection. As Zoey is going to hang up their own dreamcatcher, she is frozen staring directly into the eyes of a Raven Mocker that is clinging to her window. Sylvia tells her to call wind to her and Zoey has the wind obey her grandmother, who sends the demon away with the wind and turquoise powder. They shake and cry together until Zoey has calmed down. Sylvia suggests she send wind around all the dorms to blow away any other Raven Mockers. They both think the Raven Mockers taking on a more physical form means Kalona is gaining power.
Before Zoey falls asleep, Sylvia has her promise that she will put preventing Kalona from rising above everything and everyone else. She promises. Zoey wakes up in the middle of the day and gets ready to go back to sleep for a few hours. There is a knock on her door and Shekinah, Neferet, and Aphrodite come in. They tell her Sylvia was in an accident because a big black bird hit her car. Zoey insists Aphrodite go to the hospital with her after Neferet starts to protest. After the adults are gone, Zoey tells Aphrodite to get the nanny cam monitor to the twins and to warn them about Neferet. She also gives them the rest of the turquoise powder to among their remaining friends for protection. They get to the hospital and they wait for the doctor to come out. When he arrives, he tells them Sylvia was put into a coma to help her brain heal faster. He says she has an excellent chance. Only one person is allowed back at a time, so Aphrodite waits with Darius (who drove them). Zoey hears wings when they enter the room. She asks if she can have a medicine man come in, but the doctor says not until Sylvia is out of Intensive Care. Usually the Catholic hospital frowns on such things. Zoey asks if a nun could sit with her. The doctor agrees and Zoey goes to look up Sister Mary Angela’s number.
Sister Mary Angela arrives and Zoey rushes into her arms. The nun leaves a statue of Mother Mary to watch over Sylvia while they go to talk. They go outside and near a fountain before Zoey tells Sister Mary Angela the story about Kalona that Sylvia had told her. The nun thinks it is only a fairy tale, but Zoey explains that magic is real and demonstrates her control over the five elements. Sister Mary Angela admits that she has always suspected that magic is real and is happy to have her theories validated. She promises to watch over Zoey’s grandmother. They head back up to Sylvia’s room. Before she leaves to go back to school and fight evil, Zoey warns Sister Mary Angela that if they fail and Kalona rises, she needs to get herself, Sylvia, and the other nuns underground. The nun promises to do this and Zoey kisses her cheek before she leaves.
Zoey calls Darius to come and get her. He drives her back to the school and tells her Shekinah wanted to postpone the ritual. When Zoey protests, he tells her Neferet had the same reaction. Zoey wonders what that means. The rest of the group meets her in her dorm and they are all wearing new clothes for the new year. She tells them all she knows about her grandmother and how Sister Mary Angela is looking after her. Zoey explains what should happen and how she is keeping the ritual short. She knows there will be a lot of questions after Stevie Rae appears. They head out feeling confident.
Everything is set up for the ritual when Zoey and her friends arrive. Damien, Aphrodite, and the twins go to their respective places. Shekinah comes to tell Zoey that a Vampire’s blood has to be mixed with the wine for a ritual this large. Erik Night volunteered and will call her to the circle. Jack is excited for Zoey, but she points out that she doesn’t need another embarrassing exchange with Erik in public. He starts the music and Zoey dances to Erik. He explains that she will salute the elements and then cut his palm to let the blood go into the cup of wine. She does this and then takes the cup to each of her friends to invoke their respective elements. When she starts to approach Aphrodite, she decides she is telling everyone the truth whether or not Stevie Rae shows up. As she tells everyone that Aphrodite was just holding Stevie Rae’s earth affinity, Stevie Rae jumps down from the large tree behind Aphrodite and takes her place.
All the gathered fledglings and vampires are surprised by Stevie Rae’s arrival. Zoey explains everything that has happened and that there is a new type of vampire. The rest of the red fledglings drop from the tree as Stevie Rae had done earlier. Aphrodite steps up and admits she has also become a human, but a new kind of human. Neferet pushes her way to the front to accuse Zoey of making the red fledglings for her own use. Aphrodite asks why she isn’t wearing the insignia of Nyx. Damien points out the wings she wears on a chain can’t signify Nyx’s consort because his wings are always gold and Neferet’s are black. Shekinah demands that Zoey close her circle and let Nyx’s council decide who is telling the truth. Neferet brings out Stark, who calls out to Zoey, but seems under her spell. Neferet tries to make it look like Zoey raised him from the dead. She tells him to make the earth bleed and she will give him his hearts desire. He shoots an arrow and it hits Stevie Rae in the chest. Stark falls and seems to be himself again. Zoey refuses to close the circle still and goes to Stevie Rae, who is bleeding at the base of the tree. Neferet says she is Queen Tsi Sgili into Zoey’s head.
Aphrodite takes charge and has everyone move close to condense their circle. She tells them they have to get out of there and starts directing them to the trap door in the wall. Zoey is walking backwards to help Erik and Venus with Stevie Rae and sees Kalona rise from the tree. She is momentarily mesmerized by him until the Raven Mockers burst from the ground all around him. Zoey quickly calls Sister Mary Angela to tell her to get underground. The nun promises she is taking Sylvia with her. Shekinah starts to approach Neferet, but suddenly slumps to the ground. Neferet announces Kalona is Nyx’s consort, Erebus, reformed and she is his queen. The group moves and meets Darius and Jack at the trap door they already have opened. When they are on the other side, they see the Raven Mockers using fire to kill humans. Shaunee wants to fight back, but Aphrodite stops her from drawing attention to themselves. Zoey teaches the others how to shroud themselves in mist and darkness and become invisible. They use this technique to get to Stevie Rae’s tunnels. Before going all the way down, Zoey call Heath to let him know he needs to get his family underground. He believes her. She leaves a message on her mom’s machine to do the same. Zoey joins the others in the tunnels and meets with her close group. She tells them they are going to come up with a plan to take back the school. Everyone agrees they are in.
