The Trials of Apollo 1
Rick Riordan
1. Zeus is angry with Apollo and sends him hurtling towards Earth as a mortal. A pillow lands in a dumpster, but is able to get himself out of it. He doesn’t have anything on him except his clothes and a wallet with $100 and a junior drivers license saying his name is Lester Papadopolous. Two thugs, Mikey and Cade see him looking in his wallet and decide to mug him for his money. He tries to warn them that he is Apollo and that he will defeat them, but they approach him anyway. A pillow swings at the first one, but misses and falls in his face. They stomp him until he blacks out.
2. After beating up Apollo, Mikey and Cade are disappointed to find he only has $100 on him. Their boss told them he would be loaded. A girl, Meg, pops up in the alley and tells rhetorical thugs it is her alley and so anything Apollo has is hers. They laugh at her and one of them throws a rotten ape at her. She uses the fit and trash to pelt them and they go running off. Apollo asks her for her help, but she isn’t sure she wants to give it to him. He explains he is a god and when he regains his immortality, he will reward those that helped him. She asks how he does that. He tells her usually he becomes a demigod’s servant for a few years and the. Is restore to Olympus. He figures he can go to Percy Jackson for help and serve him. She claims his servitude and he realizes he walked right into that situation. He tells her Percy can help them get to Camp Half-Blood where there is food. She orders him to take them to Percy.
3. As they start heading north from Hell’s Kitchen, Apollo gets a look of his reflection and is upset at how utterly average he is. When they get close to Percy’s, Meg keeps looking back because she has seen silver blobs and thinks they are following them. Apollo finds there are a lot of Jackson’s in the Upper West Side, but eventually buzzes the right door. Percy lets them in and the. Answers his apartment door. Apollo explains he was beat up by thugs and is no longer a god. They need his assistance. They hear something and Percy invites them inside.
4. Percy introduces Apollo and Meg to his pregnant mom, who gets them cleaned up. After showering and taking some of Percy’s old clothes, Percy asks Apollo what happened to him after Zeus was yelling at him in the Acropolis because he has been missing for six months. Apollo says he doesn’t remember and Percy can relate. Percy tells him he can drive them to Camp Half-Blood, but he can’t get involved. He has made promises to his loved ones and wants to be around when his little sister is born. Percy pulls out Riptide saying they will see if Meg is ready for camp.
5. Meg looks much better cleaned up and reminds Apollo’ of a girl he used to love. He can’t bring himself to even say her name. Apollo tells Percy about his fall from Olympus and the first two times Zeus made him mortal. The first was with Poseidon for trying to overthrow Zeus and they were sent to Troy. The second he killed some of Zeus’ Cyclopses. Percy asks Meg about herself. She doesn’t know much about her parents or any godly powers. Apollo asks when they can leave and Percy agrees to take them right then. He tells them he has to be back that night to study for his DSTOMP test for the University of New Rome. He promises his mom he will be right back. She gives Apollo and Meg some blue cookies, but tells Percy he can’t have any until he returns.
6. The trip is slow going when they get stuck in traffic on the along Island Expressway. Percy tries to stop Meg from saying they aren’t being followed and explains it would jinx them. She asks if he can see the future and he tells her no one can because the Oracle of Delphi isn’t working. Apollo had expected the demigods to have fixed that issue. One of his enemies has escaped Tartarus and has taken over the temple of Delphi. Percy tells him demigods need a prophecy to go out on quests, so no can be sent anywhere. The silver blobby creatures start to catch up to them and Percy drives wildly trying to get to the beach so he’ll have a better chance at fighting them. One appears in front of him and he swerves. His car ends up stuck between two tree trunks and they all have to crawl out the back seat doors. Apollo remembers they are plague spirits and cannot be killed.
7. The Nosoi plague spirits catch up to them and Apollo threatens to kill them. He is hoping his speech will give Percy and Meg time to come up with a plan. Meg throws another each at one and puts a stick through another. Percy’s sword doesn’t do much good and they decide to run the mile to the border of camp. Percy knocks over eater being carried by a tractor trailer, but the nosoi just reform in front of them. Percy ends up going into one. Apollo turns to run and hits a tree. He falls onto his back and the nosoi covers him.
8. One of the irrigation pipes breaks and Percy uses the water to get the noses off him and Apollo. Meg tells them to get down and the peaches around her lift into the air and shoot the nosos. Next, they come together to form a karpos that eats the nosos one by one. Percy ends up with a head cold, but everyone else is fine. The karpos seems to like Meg and she names it peaches as it clings to her leg. The police arrive and Apollo tells Percy to go take care of it and they will get themselves the rest of the way to camp.
9. Apollo and Meg start to make their way through the forest in Camp Half-Blood, but it seems the trees are moving around to make their journey more difficult. Meg asks Peaches for help, but the little Karoo becomes leaves and flutters away. A woman’s voice calls out to Apollo in his head telling him to find her. He falls from the sheer pain the voice brings him. Meg bares most of his weight and tells the trees to get out t of the way. They make it to the campfire where a few campers are making s’mores. Apollo introduces himself before passing out.
10. Apollo dreams about driving his sun chariot in Maserati form. A queen with a hippie-vibe and peace sign necklace tells him he needs to find the gates. The car turns into school bus mode and a man in a mauve suit tells him he is going to burn down the Oracle. When Apollo wakes up, he is in the Apollo cabin at Camp Half-Blood. Will Solace has been trying to fix him, but admits he doesn’t know what is wrong with Apollo. His half siblings come in worried about losing their powers now that their father has been made a mortal teenager. Apollo assures them they won’t. Will takes Apollo to the big house. On the way, he sees the purple curtains on the cave where Rachel Dare (the Oracle) usually gives prophecies. He wishes she could talk to her because she is wise even before she had the gift of prophecy. When they get to the Big House, Nico di Angelo is there and mentions Apollo is clouded by an aura of death. Will apologizes for his boyfriend’s manners. Chiron comes out to meet them.
11. When Gaea opened the gates of hell, the original occupant of the cave of Delphi got out and went back to the cave. Chiron explains the original place of the Oracle is like the taproot to a tree and could impact the whole tree. He explains to Meg that their whole existence depends on prophecies. He tells them theee demigods have gone missing. They didn’t think much when the first two left without notice, it when the head of the Demeter cabin vanished, they started to worry because she would never leave without notice. Apollo asks if they had heard voices before disappearing. Chiron notes they may have to keep the demigods out of the woods for a while. He tells Apollo he will have to take back the cave if Delphi to restore prophecy. They cannot wait a year or more for him to become a god again or they may. It have any demigods left. Apollo contemplates how all the stories say he defeated Python easily, but he actually had nightmares about how horrible the battle had been. The horn sounds for dinner.
12. Apollo sits with his children at dinner. He looks around at what demigods can help him and asks about the seven from the last quest. They tell him Percy and Annabeth are finishing their senior year in New York. Hazel ans Frank are back at Camp Jupiter. Jason and Piper are back in school in California. Leo died, but came back to life and went to go find Calypso. He tried to send a message, but communications have been on the fritz and the important parts don’t come through. Nico is upset he doesn’t know where he is. Austin and Kayla, two of Apollo’s children offer to help him and he is moved. Chiron calls their attention for a few announcements.
13. Chiron has the creator of the three-legged death race, Harley, explain his design. While many of the campers object, Chiron points out they need to keep up with their normal training activities and learn the labyrinth. Apollo is surprised to hear they are going into Daedalus’ labyrinth at all, but the others at the Apollo table tell him it reopened when Gaea emerged, but has calmed down since Daedalus died. Connor Stoll and Sherman Yang catch Meg in a net and plan to dunk her in the lake, but Peaches comes to her rescue. When some of the other campers try to kill the karpos, Meg’s rings become blades of imperial gold and she defends it. Demeter claims her.
14. Apollo is not especially happy that Meg is a child of Demeter as he has had spat with Demeter over saying her daughters before. But as Meg is lead to her new cabin, Apollo gives her the thumbs up sign for encouragement. The next morning, he finds Meg during breakfast. He asks her about the imperial gold weapons she carries because she was claimed by Demeter, not her Roman form, Ceres. Meg says her step father gave them to her and he was a good guy. She shuts down Apollo when he asks for more information. He changes the subject to cheer her up about the upcoming race. Sherman Yang calls out for them to all start morning training.
15. After gym with Sherman Yang, Apollo joins Woodrow’s music class. He plays and the students get emotional. He tries to play intentionally bad, but everyone still seems to think it is beautiful. Austin joins in on his violin. Apollo goes to archery next and is upset he doesn’t have perfect shots. He vows not to use archery until he is a god once again. While Kayla is trying to cheer up Apollo, they see Sherman starting to walk into the forest. He is going after his cabin mate, Ellis, and girlfriend. They keep him from going in and when he comes back to himself, he doesn’t remember anything.
16. Apollo tries to tell Chiron that he thinks there is an Oracle luring people with. Urning questions into the woods to give them answers, but everyone is too busy getting ready for the three legged death race they no one listens to him. Kayla tells Austin about it, but Austin says it will have to wait until after the race. Apollo goes to tell Meg and finds Julia and Alice trying to out a tracker on Meg. He throws the tracker back at them and bluffs he doesn’t mind because he did something to their shoes. He tells Meg about the Oracle, but can’t remember the name of it. They are bound for the race and line up with the others. The satyrs come around and spread out the teams. Harley explains each team that collects three golden apples and makes it back alive wins. Some campers demand the winner be the first one back, so Harley allows for the change. He gives the signal and the ground below them drops them into the labyrinth.
17. Meg and Apollo find themself in the maze and the ground above them closes up and plunges them into darkness. He points out a glowing golden apple in the distance and Mag tries to rush towards it. Apollo warns here there could be traps. Paolo and Conner Stoll get to it first and flaming bowling balls start to fall on them. They rush off with the apple taking the only light with them. Meg and Apollo go the other way down their tunnel. When they come to a fork, he tells her there is a the buzz of a saw to one side and a bad smell to the other. Meg picks the bad smell and they keep moving. When the tunnel ends into a cavern, they move across a narrow ledge. Apollo tells Meg to be quiet because they are at Delphi and Python is not far above them.
18. Meg continues heading towards the golden apple. She makes Apollo jump across the chasm with her. Python calls out to ask who is approaching. When they hear another voice, Apollo is relieved, but Meg tenses up. The man called The Beast and Python have a conversation about killing Apollo and the girl when they have outlived their usefulness. They plan to take over four Oracles and kill the fifth one that Python cannot control. Apollo cannot stop himself from saying Dodona’a name out loud. Python hears them and calls out asking who is there. Apollo and Meg slip off the ledge they are on and fall into the chasm. They land in a large pile of garbage bags. Apollo asks Meg who the Beast is, but she refuses to tell him and orders him to stop talking. When she asks about Dodona, she releases the order and he tells her he doesn’t want to talk about it in the maze. He says they need to get to Chiron. Meg finds another golden apple among the trash and tells him they only need one more to leave.
19. Apollo make their way through the maze and find their last apple. A ramp opens up and leads them into the woods at camp. The binding on their legs falls off and they run back to camp. Chiron reveals that Kayla and Austin still haven’t returned. Apollo remembers what the Beast said about drawing Apollo in. Chiron apologizes for not listening to him before the race. After getting cleaned up, Apollo wants to go into the forest to look for his kids, but Will calls out that he needs his help with all the injuries. Apollo helps and finds he retained much of his medical skills. Afterwards, he want to go into the woods, but Meg forbids him from going in until she says so. He sets himself up with blankets to watch for his kids in case they return. Meg stays with him a while. He asks her about the Beast. She says he teaches demigods in exchange makes them servants. He killed her dad and would have killed her if she hadn’t gotten away. Her step-dad gave her the crescent rings and taught her how to defend herself. She closes up again and says they should gonna de nap they don’t freeze. Apollo refuses and sits in the falling snow. They hear helicopters in the distance and when Apollo’s sees DE written on the side, he realizes Rachel Dare is almost there.
20. Apollo asks Meg to get Chironn and tell him to keep the other campers away for now. He goes to greet Rachel and they go to her caves. When she stoped getting prophecies, she had gotten frustrated and painted her walls white hoping a clean slate would help. The furniture was all tossed about. Chiron and Meg arrive and Apollo tells their recent story including going to Delphi in the maze. Rachel tells them the satyrs were in bad shape when they got to her and didn’t make it. She has been looking into a company that owns a large building in Manhattan. Her dad’s real estate lawyers looked into it and found a company called Triumvirate. This is a Roman concept of three people making a bonded deal. She shows them the fuzzy picture she had of them on her phone. Apollo figures one of them is the Beast. He thinks he knows who the Beast is, but his memory isn’t allowing him to remember. Rachel goes on to explain the company funded Luke’s battle against Olympus. It also paid for the siege weapons Octavian had brought for them to use against Camp Half-Blood. Apollo remember what he had heard the Beast say about the organization being centuries old. Chiron reminds them the greatest threat to demigods is usually other demigods. They wonder if these might be ones that escaped when Gaea opened the gates, but think Hades must have rounded all those up. Apollo tells them about how Beast and Python talked about taking over the other Oracles and Rachel is surprised to hear there are others. Apollo tells them he thinks one of them is in the camp: the Grove of Dodona.
21. Apollo explains where the other oracles he created are. He then tells them the Grove of Dodona was created by Rhea, mother of the first generation of Olympians. The original grove of Oaks was tended by priests and used wind chimes to channel the voices for prophecies. Apollo believes Pythian cannot control it because it isn’t related to Apollo. Rhea wanted her children to survive and thrive. The mast of the Argo was made of a branch from one of the trees and was able to help guide the argonauts. Apollo thinks if they can figure out how to use the grove, they will be able to have quests again. He apologizes to Rachel knowing it must be hard to feel replaced. Apollo and Meg decide they will need rest before they go into the woods since they were up all night. Chiron asks what they need and the. Tell them to go rest and prepare to enter the woods at sunset.
22. Apollo wakes up and wonders around the camp. He feels like everyone is looking at him like the entire situation is his fault. He finds Meg in the armory and she hands him a bow. He refuses it and she is worried he is going to depend on her for all of the foghting. He grabs a sword that is too heavy for him to try to ease her mind and says he will have her back. A few campers come to send them off in their quest into the woods. Will gives Apollo a celestial bronze eukalai and tells him they will feel better if he takes it. Apollo does. Paolo gives him his lucky scarf in his Brazilian colors. Billie Ng gives Meg some seeds. They set off into the woods and the rain is pelting them. Meg is horrified when she comes across a dead myrmeke (giant ant that spits acid). He tries to tell her not to worry, but remembers they are deadly and he is mortal now. Suddenly, the rain stops and the ground starts to steam making it feel like a tropical rainforest. Apollo realizes there is a geyser nearby and they might be able to get help from the geyser gods if they are in a good mood.
23. Apollo and Meg arrive at the twin set of geysers and Apollo makes up a poem as an offering. The palikis appears and introduces himself as Pete. He is worried about the marketing strategy he and his partner Pauline have been working on for the forest at Camp Half-Blood. He is worried they aren’t reaching enough people. Meg asks if he has seen any lost demigods. He admits he hasn’t seen any lately. He shows them the red spotlight he uses to try to attract campers. He says Pauline is better at marketing, but he has gone to the grove to see about moving it to a different location and hasn’t come back. They ask where the grove is, but Pete isn’t supposed to talk about it. Apollo talks about how he doubt it exists because he hasn’t seen any ads or hashtags for it. Before Pete can give up its location, the giant ant monsters arrive attracted to the red spotlight.
24. Apollo pulls out his ukulele, but the myrmekes charge upon seeing the shiny object. Meg pulls out her own blade and two of the three monster start to charge her. Pete hides in his geyser. The last one continues to Apollo who is backed up against the geyser, pulls out his sword to defend himself. When it shoots acid at him, he tries to hit it back towards the myrmeke with his sword. The acid melts the sword and he makes a dive for his ukulele. He starts playing Sweet Caroline and is able to defeat the monster. He goes to help Meg, but he doesn’t have any energy left and is knocked to the side. The myrmekes carry Meg away. When Apollo is able to get up, Meg is gone.
25. Apollo finds Meg’s blades and puts them on a ukulele string around his necks. He goes to the geyser and asks Pete for directions to the ant’s lair. Pete tells him the lair is the only way into the grove and is half a mile north. He also points out Apollo’s injuries. He says he has about 24 hours before the ant’s goo will turn Meg soft to feed to the baby ants. He also says there were three adults going through the woods with weapons and speaking Latin. Apollo makes an oath to save Meg before heading back to camp for medical assistance. As he makes his way back, Apollo runs out of steam and falls to the frozen ground. He is kicked by a lion. He looks up to see Rhea.
26. One of Rhea’s lions licks Apollo’s head where it was injured. She has been hiding in upstate New York since Woodstock. She has a hippie feminist vibe and trouble remember what things happened when. She tells him Triumvirate has been laying low and waiting for him to be weakened so they could take over the oracles. He will have to take them back, but will have to start off with a smaller one than Delphi. In the meantime, the campers will have to use another source of prophecy that isn’t connected to him. She felt the regrowth of the Dodona forest and tells him he will have to protect it. He asks how, but she doesn’t have any advice on the subject. He asks how he is supposed to get Meg back, but she says it is up to him. Triumvirate is planning an attack on the camp and he needs to warn his friends. They will try to take over the Dodona forest as well, but they won’t be able to enter without him and Meg. She gives him a set of wind chimes and tells him to hang them in the large ancient oak. He is transported back to camp right in front of Chiara Benvenuti and passes out.
27. Apollo dreams of Hyacinthus before he wakes up in Cabin 7 with Nico and will are there with him. He immediately starts telling them he has to rescue Meg before sundown. They offer to help, but he tells them they have to stay and defend the camp. He tells them they are Emperors are going to attack and they need to be ready. The worst of them being the Beast, Emperor Nero. He goes off to the armory and grabs the bow Meg tries to give him earlier. He loads up a quiver with as many arrows as he can and makes his way to the ant hill where the mermykes live. He summons all his sadness and sings into the tunnels. The melancholy songs make the ants sad and they move more slowly. Meg has dropped seeds of geraniums along to way to show Apollo where she is. He follows them and kills ants when he has to. When he gets to Meg. She is trying to use flowers to break herself out of the goo she is encased in. She is also sad from his singing. Apollo tries to help her, but four ants show up and he only has one arrow left.
28. Apollo tries to shoot the cave wall above where the ants are, but it sinks in rather than making the tunnel collapse on them. He reluctantly sings enough to calm them down. He goes to Meg and finds the packet of seeds on the ground next to her and she tells him to sprinkle them around her. He does and the flowers help to free her. Her gives her the rings from his necklace. Suddenly, the tunnel caves from the arrow. There is only one path out and Meg can tell it is the way they need to go because she can feel the trees in the Dodona forest growing. They head that way and come across the queen. Apollo sings her a song called Mama. She seems to find it endearing and lets them by.
29. Apollo and Meg arrive at the gates and Peaches finds them. The missing demigods and geyser god are wrapped up in white cocoons on steaks and unconscious. Apollo tries to free them, but has no success. He asks Meg to help, but Nero arrives with his two large Germani bodyguards, Gary and Vince. He agrees to free the six captives if Apollo and Meg can get him into the Grove of Dodona. Apollo says they would rather die, but when he looks down at Meg, she is crying. She tells him Nero is her stepfather. Nero tells her he is pleased with how she has brought Apollo there as he asked.
30. Nero tells them he founds a tunnel in the labyrinth that lead to the mermyrke lair and from there they found the grove. They have tried many horrible ways to enter. The grove called for help and the demigods were drawn to it. Apollo tries to tell Meg how Nero burned down Rome to profit and then built his giant palace over the ashes. He reminds her that he killed her father, but Meg is convinced Nero and the Beast are two different people. Apollo tells her Nero will make their friends into human torches, but Nero says he won’t if Apollo helps them. Apollo refuses to do it willingly, so Meg orders him to help her open the gates.
31. Meg has Apollo help her open the gates and she steps in. The voices are overwhelming to Apollo, but Meg can hear clearly. The grove tells her that Nero plans to burn the demigods to destroy the grove. When she confronts him about it, he says the grove is confused and useless. He wants to level all of Long Island and make it his new Domus Aurea. Meg is horrified at his idea. Nero takes out a box of matches and starts towards Austin.
32. Peaches bites Nero’s arm to keep him from lighting the human torches. Nero is upset that Meg isn’t listening to him. Apollo tells her she is going to have to decide for herself which side she is on. Meg tells peaches to get the box of matches from Nero. Apollo gives her the wind chimes and tells her to hang them on the center tree in the grove. Meg rushes off with Peaches. Apollo gets a sudden urge of strength and is able to fight of Vince and Gary. Nero dumps some oil on the ground, pulls out a silver lighter and lights some Greek fire. Apollo starts ripping the stakes out of the ground to save his friends, but the fire is starting to take over. He calls out for help and says he is sorry. A group of dryads come and cover up the fire with mud. Their bodies turn to ash and the west wind, Zephyros, blows away their ashes so they can be reincarnated. Apollo uses a broken spear to saw Austin out of his cocoon. When he is awake, Apollo tells him to free the others while he rushes into the suddenly quiet grove to help Meg.
33. Apollo tries to ignore the incoherent babbling and sales pitches of the trees around him as he searches for Meg. He finally finds her standing next to the central tree with Peaches roping on the ground in the pain. He tells her she needs to get the wind chimes into the tree. She doesn’t want to do it, but decides to for Peaches’ sake. Apollo is hurt by this, but still helps to boost Meg up so she can get the chimes into the tree. They are given a prophecy in a limerick and Apollo thinks it is telling about his death. He tells Meg they need to go tell Rachel what it said, but Meg refuses to work with him. He tries to tell her they are bound together, but she says she releases him and runs off.
34. Apollo makes it back to the entrance of the grove and explains to the demigods hat happened. He sends the geyser his back to his partner to recharge. He tells them Nero is probably sending his Collosus statue that used to stand outside the Collusium to level all of Long Island starting with camp. The Athena Parthonos will try to protect it, but it is smaller and doesnmt have many campers present at camp to fuel it. Apollo has the demigods help him rap Mama again to get the mermyrke queen to them. He asks her for a ride back to camp and she tosses him onto her back. The others get in as well and she digs a tunnel straight to camp. When they arrive, they hear screaming.
35. Apollo asks Mama to make one round around the Collosus’ head to distract it. He can see the efforts of the demigods as they fly around. The statue starts to seat at the ants and Apollo tells them to dive to avoid getting hit. Mama’s wings are clipped a bit and they go down in the beach. Apollo thanks her for their help and the ants take off. He has an idea about the head. He tells Will, Austin and Kayla to come with him while the others run distraction. Collossus’ foot starts to come down on them.
36. The heroes scatter. Apollo says they need to get a hold of the Flying chariot. Nico takes wills hand and darts to a shadow to get them to the chariot. They commandeer it and get it back to Apollo. Will hands over the reigns and goes to take care of Nico who is now drained from the extensive use of his powers. Austin drives while Apollo explains his plan to plague an arrow and then shoot it into the statue’s ear. He goes to pull out the arrow he got from the. Grove of Dodona, but it speaks to him and tells him it is not for shooting. Apollo is at a loss because none of them have any other arrows. The arrow tells him to get them from the arm pit. They fly by and Kayla is able to grab a handful of arrows. She cuts her hand and Apollo gives her Paolo’s bandana to cover it. Only one of the arrows is good and Apollo isn’t sure he’ll be able to summon enough of the power to plague the arrow. The arrow offers to help. Apollo needs more time, but they are running out. Suddenly, Percy Jackson arrives on his hellhound.
37. Percy and Mrs. O’Leary land on the statue’s head. They start distracting it and Percy yells at Apollo to do his thing while he leads it towards the water. Apollo infects the arrow, but the fumes from the arrow get to Austin and Kayla as well, they end up crashing the chariot and end up on the ground. The arrow gives Apollo tips for shooting like he isnmt the god of archery. He takes the shot, but it goes too far right. A breeze ends up taking the arrow into the statue’s ear. It starts sneezing and since the only holes are in the ears, it ends up sneaking its head off and landing in the ocean.
38. Percy has the larger sea creatures carry the headless statue down to Poseidon. Will leads the charge in healing the campers with Apollo assisting. The Demeter cabin was destroyed as well as the dining Pavillion. The next morning, Apollo decides he will have to leave before the others wake up since he is the one that put them all in danger. His courage falters and he ends up staying long enough for the campers to start waking up. Percy and Rachel come along to ask him what he is going to do. He plans to go after Meg and reclaim the oracles. He tells them the prophecy he was given by the grove and about the annoying arrow that gives him advice. Rachel offers to go with him, but Apollo says she is too valuable to him and the enemies already know that. Percy says he can’t go because he is trying to finish high school and get into New Rome University. But he says that Apollo’s ride is about to arrive. Just then, Festus lands on the beach with Leo and Calypso.
39. A line forms for the campers to punch Leo’s arm for making them all worry about him for six months. Percy is awkward around Calypso. Leo fills them in on their adventures since leaving Oogyia. Calypso has been made mortal and doesn’t have any of her powers. She is not a fan of Apollo because when she petitioned to shorten her sentence, he made her stay in the island. He tells them he had been planning to go alone, but they insist on going with him. They decide the country is split between the three emperors and the next one is in the Midwest. Apollo thinks it is most likely in Indiana since he heard it mentioned in the grove. Percy takes off. Leo says they can leave in the morning because Festus needs a tune up and oil change. That night at the campfire, they decide to do a sing-along. Some of the campers complain, but Apollo says they should never miss a chance to sing and Calypso agrees. Apollo enjoys his last night at camp with his family.
