PART I: THE HOUSE OF BEASTS
1. Feyre is still adjusting to the changes her body made to become a high fae. She wakes up every night from nightmares about her hat happened under the mountain. Tamlin doesn't seem to notice and she assumes he is dealing with his own guilt over the situation.
2. It has been three months since the events under the mountain. Tamlin doesn’t let Feyre go anywhere. She was thrilled when Tamlin asked her to marry him. She isn't thrilled being stuck with the wedding planning . A high priestess, Ianthe, hopes to prove herself among her kind. Her father left with his family to get away from Amarantha’s reign of terror. She suggests colors and Feyre tells her anything but red. She sees enough of it in her bloody dreams. That night, Feyre can’t sleep. When Tamlin comes to her room, they have sex. Feyre asks what her title will be when they are married. Tamlin tells her she won’t technically have a title. High fae are men and they have consorts called “lady.”
3. Feyre can’t stand being inside and goes out to the stables. Lucian tries to explain that Tamlin just wants to be sure all of Amarantha’s beasts are gone before he lets her run free. He takes her to town with him and they go house to house asking fae families if they can help with the rebuilding of the town. Each house tells them the debt is paid and they don’t have anything to do. Lucian tells Feyre she is a reminder of what they went through for 50 years. The high fae were allowed under the mountain, but the others were sent to camps to make sure Amarantha had what she needed. Some resorted to horrible things to survive. He tells her the wedding will be a nice distraction for them.
4. There are a lot of parties and Ianthe tells her it is for moral of the people. Tamlin tells her he hates them too, but he seems to enjoy them, so she doesn't complain. Feyre stays close to Ianthe during the party. Two guards come to talk to them and mention Feyre’s trials. She excuses herself to go to bed as it is tradition for them not to see each other that night. Feyre hates her wedding dress. Even Alice didn’t have anything nice to say about it. When she puts it on and her hair is done, she hates it as she walks down the stairs and outside. Ianthe will hold the ceremony right before sunset. She wares gloves that hide the tattoos on her arms from her deal with Rhys. When the doors open and she steps outside, the path is lined with white and red rose petals. She thinks about how she has killed so many of their kind and all 300 guests are probably thinking the same thing. She feels sick as she approaches Tamlin. She looks around for anyone to save her as she feels like she is drowning. Rhys appears.
5. Rhys tells Tamlin he will be taking Feyre for their deal now. Tamlin is furious and asks to finish the ceremony first. Rhys says he is pretty sure it was already over according to Feyre. He grabs her around the waist and darkness surrounds them. They arrive in the Night Court. Rhys tells Feyre where her room is, to change out of her horrible dress, and that he’ll see her in the morning at breakfast. He says she should be grateful for him saving her from having to say no to Tamlin in front of his entire court. She throws her shoe at the back of his head as he walks away. When he turns around, she throws the other. She goes to her room and changes. When she wakes up in the morning, she gets dressed and can feel Rhys summoning her through their bond. When she gets to the table, he says it was just to help her find her way. He explains their bond is two way and he can see her side when she is upset and lets her shields down. He knows that she was throwing up every night and not sleeping. He knows that she can’t stand the sight of certain colors or rooms. He also noticed that Tamlin didn’t seem to care about any of it. She asks why he wants her there . He says for that particular week, she will learn how to read.
6. At breakfast, Rhys’ cousin Morrigan (Mor) joins them. She seems authentically happy to meet Feyre. After, Rhys takes Feyre to the library to see how much she can read. He has her copy the alphabet while practicing putting up and down her shields in her mind. Each day, he gives her a new sentence to read and copy they has to do with his arrogance’s.
7. Toward the end of the week, Feyre finds Mor giving Rhys a report that there was an attack. None of the priestesses or civillians survived. He doesn’t seems to mind that Feyre heard what was going on as Mor leaves. HE tells her there is a war coming. Amarantha was just of of Hybern’s generals and was given a chance to see what would happen. He thinks if the seven courts fall, the wall between Prythean and the continent will as well. He tells her she has unusual powers and he doesn’t know what they are because she was brought back to life and made far by the seven high fae together. He admits that he was on the front lines of the war before and he doesn’t want to see bloodshed like that again. The next morning, Feyre is excited to wake up and tell Rhys it is time for him to take her home to Tamlin. He asks if she is sure she wants to go back after leaving her fiancé at the alter, and she hesitates. She decides to go back and is surprised when Tamlin immediately starts asking her about the layout of the Night Court. She was a frustrated with Rhys’ arrogance and tells him what she can remember.
8. Feyre isn’t happy about tithe. Tamlin sits in a throne room and collects what each fae family owes. They are in the receiving room for hours when a fae with sharp teeth comes before him naked and says they don’t have any fish in their lake, so there was nothing to bring him. He demands she either produce the tithe or give double at the next offering. She leaves and Feyre excises herself to follow. She catches up with the girls and gives her all of her jewelry. When the fae asks the price, Feyre tells her there isn’t one. The fae says she and her sisters will remember her kindness.
9. At dinner that night, Tamlin is furious that Feyre undermined his authority by giving away the jewelry he gave her as gifts. She argues that they have more jewelry than they will ever need and he does not know what it is like to go hungry. She looks to Lucian to back her up, but accidentally enters his mind and sees the table from his point of view. When she pulls back into herself, there are burn marks on the table where her hands had been. She goes to her room. Later, Tamlin comes in to apologize and brings her a gift. She is disappointed when she opens the paint set and sees the red like blood and the blue like the eyes of the fae girl she killed. She says she is drowning and can’t live being constantly smothered. He tells her that is part of being his wife and she tells him to find someone who wants that life. His anger is literally explosive.
10. Feyre throws up a physical wall to protect herself from Tamlin. It takes a while before she feels safe enough to let it down. He holds her, tries to comfort her, and promises to try to do better. Feyre notices less guards around her, but spends most of her time in the library practicing reading and using her shields. She is surprised when Rhys comes to get her and Tamlin is furious.
11. Tamlin offers Rhys anything he wants to release Feyre from their deal, but Rhys says he has everything he wants. When they arrive in the Night Court, Rhys is disappointed that Feyre seems to have lost her passion since the last time he saw her. He couldn’t feel anything over their connection except her one spike of fear. He asks her again to help him fight the coming war and she declines. When she doesn’t argue with him and passes his reading tests, he says he has to leave for a few days. Feyre spends the whole time reading. Rhys doesn’t return until her final day there.
12. When Feyre returns home, Rhys tells her he will come for her whenever she calls, even if it is not during their arranged time. Tamlin becomes more protective and Feyre spends all her time reading. When Tamlin says he has to leave for a battle, Feyre begs to go with him. He tells her no and she says she has to get out. He uses a shield to keep her in place. Lucian tells her Tamlin put the shield around the entire house. Anyone can leave except her. After Tamlin and Lucian leave, Feyre surrounds herself in darkness. She vaguely hears two woman talking and eventually realizes they are Alice and Mor. Mor Carrie’s her out of the house and to a car where Rhys is waiting. He could feel her pain even with her shields up and brought the barrier down. To prevent Ramlin from having reason to start a war between their courts, he had Mor go in to get her. They winnow back to the Night Court.
13. Fryre gets some sleep. When she wakes up, Rhys tells her she is technically there for her one week a month, but can stay as long as she like. When Rhys tells her he is leaving for a bit, she asks to go with him. He tells him if she goes, it is a secret she will need to keep from everyone because people’s lives will depend on it. She agrees and he gives her time to make herself presentable. They leave shortly after and arrive at his house in Velaris, the city of Starlight.
PART TWO: THE HOUSE OF WIND
14. Rhys tells Feyre only he and … can winnow into the house. No one with ill intentions is allowed into the city, so he tells her she can go wherever she likes. Feyre has a hard time understanding how any city survived Amarantha’s wrath. Two men bang on the door and can hear their conversation. He says she can meet the men right then or she can go to her room and get some rest before she is introduced to his inner circle and the city. She goes upstairs and the twin hand maidens take care of her. She asks about the city, but the girls tell her that is Rhys’ story to tell. Feyre goes to sleep.
15. A few hours later, Rhys is showing Feyre around Velaris. She asks how Amarantha didn’t get a hold of it and he says the city has been secret for millennia. Feyre is upset that he didn’t open up the city to refugees when Amarantha started to take over, but he knew if he did it wouldn’t be a secret for long. She gets ready for dinner and he flies her to the House of Wind. On the way, he tells her he used to sneak out at night to fly around the city. Sometimes his mother would join him. He talks about her in past tense and she decides not to press. She tells him she realizes she hasn’t seen all of the Spring Court and she feels like a fool for almost marrying Tamlin because he was the first person that was nice to her. When they arrive, two winged men arrive behind them.
16. Rhys introduces arrogant Cassian and spy master Azriel. Mor arrives shortly after and takes Feyre to meet Rhys’ second in command, Amren. She tells Feyre there are now three of them that are not in the same bodies they started out with. When they sit down to dinner, Amren does not eat and says she eats differently than the others. They share their stories. Rhys was a bastard child. When he joined the army, his mother stayed as close as she could without interfering with his training. She would give him extra training to make sure he was the best. When another bastard, Cassian, came along, she started helping him too. Then Azriel. They didn’t get along until they realized the liked each other more than they liked the others among the army. They worked together and when Rhys became High Lord, he brought them with him. Mor was raised in a time where women would have their wings clipped to make sure they couldn’t get away from breeding. She did everything she could to keep her menstrual cycle from starting, but eventually, it did. Feyre tells her story. Cassian asks if she wants him ti teach her how ti fight, but she worries that it would look too improper. Mor tells her to not worry about her reputation, but what is right for her. Feyre says she’ll consider it. She tells Rhys she agrees to work for him to earn her keep. He tells her Hybern is planning to bring back one of his dead commanders that Amarantha killed (revenge for killing her sister) and kept his bone and eye in a ring. Hybern is planning to use those pieces to resurrect him since news of Feyre’s own resurrection has spread. Rhys plans for the two of them to go to the Bone Carver to see what they can find out the next day.
17. That night, Feyre dreams of Amarantha cutting her to pieces. Rhys wakes her up from it. Rhys takes Feyre to the prison, but it is made of rock and her PTSD won’t let her go on. She begs Rhys to take her back to Velaris and he does. She sleeps the rest of the day
18. When Feyre wakes up, Amren says she will allow Feyre to borrow her amulet that allowed her to escape the prison. Rhys and Feyre go back to the prison and make their way through by foot. They get to the bone carver’s cell, he looks like a little boy. He invites them in and Feyre admits she is scared. They exchange questions. The Bone Carver wants to know about Feyre’s death. In exchange, he tells them about the three legged couldron that could allow Hybern to bring back a soul from the dead. The legs were cut off and kept in separate temples and that is why Hybern has been attacking them. He tells them there is a book that has been split in two that would help them understand how the couldron works. The half kept by the human queens must be given freely by a queen or else it will melt into nothing. They leave and return home.
19. Rhys updates his inner circle in what he has learned. He thinks Feyre will be able to find the objects they need that belong to each of the courts because she has a piece of each courts high lord in her from them resurrecting her. He says they will test the theory by having her try to find his object that the Weaver has had for a long time. He has her get dressed before the sun rises. He tells her she must sneak in and not be detected. She cannot touch anything but his object. He cannot go because the Weaver knows him.
20. Rhys takes her to a forest in neutral that has a run by the most powerful creature present. Feyre makes her way into the Weaver of the Woods’s house and starts sneaking around looking for Rhys’ item. The Weaver sings and Feyre tires to ignore her. She is just about to give up when she feels pulled to an area. She finds a ring and knows it belongs to Rhys. When she picks it up, the Weaver stops singing and her spinning wheel slows. When the wheel stops, she asks who is in her house. The door locks and Feyre is stuck. The weaver keeps asking who is in her house. Feyre catches some of her weaving on fire and realizes they are made of people. She crawls up the chimney and gets stuck. She starts to panic and the Weaver starts to come up after her. Feyre makes herself stop and think. She pulls a brick from the chimney and throws it at the Weaver. She gets out of the chimney and starts making her way through the forest by jumping from tree to tree until she gets to Rhys who was waiting far enough away that the weaver wouldn’t sense him. He winnows them back to Velaris.
21. Feyre is initially angry at Rhys for not helping her, but realizes she needs to learn how to keep in control of her mind instead of giving into the panic she feels. She asks about the ring and he tells her it was his mother’s ring. She have it to the Weaver to hold onto until Rhys was ready so he wouldn’t use it too early. He insists they work on her abilities and shows her what his own mental wall looks like. She tries to get through, but can’t until he lets her. She sees Ianthe laying on Rhy’s bed naked trying to seduce him. He turns her down and insists she leave. When she tries ti touch him, he breaks her hand and tells her never to touch him or anyone in his court ever again. He sends her away.
22. Since the Summer Court hasn’t answered Rhys’ request to visit, they decide they will instead cross the wall onto the human side. Rhys tries to convince Mor to go with them, but she refuses saying she will only go if they meet the queens who would be the ancestors of the friends she once had. When she asks Feyre about human girls, Feyre says the richer they are the less freedom they have. Mor thinks the far world is sometimes similar and tells Feyre a bit of her past. Mor has a deep respect for Cassian saying he is the strongest age she has ever met. Rhys asks Feyre who she wants to fly with and she chooses Azriel. He holds onto Feyre gently as Rhys winnows them. The wall feels different to Feyre now that she is fae. Azriel flies them through the weak spot in the wall.
23. The others make themselves invisible while Feyre goes to her family’s house. A servant opens the door and is shocked to see her as a fae. Elain sees Feyre at the door and invites her in. Nesta is a bit more reserved. Feyre tells them a bit of what happened and the war that is coming. She asks to use their house as a meeting place for the high fae and the queens. Nesta instantly says no. Elain is engaged to a Lord whose father hunts fae. She doesn’t want to do anything to risk that engagement. Elain points out that Feyre took care of them for years and if it wasn’t for her, they wouldn’t be where they are now. Nesta agrees and Elain goes to send the servants away to keep the matter private. Feyre asks if they would like the meet the members of the new court she has found herself in.
24. The servants leave quickly and the fae make their presence known. Feyre introduces Rhys, Cassian, and Azriel. They have a very tense dinner together where Nesta makes it very clear that while she doesn’t like the fae due to the fear they were raised on, there are others that will be less pleasant than her. Cassian makes a remark about Nesta and Elain forcing Feyre to take care of them when she was the youngest. Nesta begrudgingly offers to let them stay the night. Feyre and Rhys share a room. She tries to protest, but he points out their magic is different on that side of the wall.
25. The next morning, Feyre asks Rhys to train her. He gives her a task of working on the elements. She feels like it is impossible, so he suggests shapeshifting. She asks him to leave her alone so she isn’t distracted and he does. When she eats the lunch he left her, he finds he has also left her a note. As they are writing back and forth, the Attor finds her and catches her.
26. Rhys saves her from the Attor and asks it why the king of Hybern wants her. He doesn’t know. Rhys asks where the king is. He says he is on his way with an endless army and has loyal subjects in every territory. Azriell appears silently to take the Attor away.
27. Feyre is furious the Rhys used her for bait and attacks him. He is easily able to get away from her. She Winnie’s to where he is about to appear and tackles him. She says to train her as a weapon and never use her as a pawn. He agrees that is fair. He suggests they go home, but she says Velaris isn’t her home. She goes back to her family’s house to write a letter to Tamlin telling him she isn’t ever coming back.
28. Feyre asks to see what happened to the Attor. Rhys shows her the memory of him questioning the creature and then having Asreil break its legs and wings to leave on the Hybern border as a message to the king. When they get back to Velaris, Feyre jokes about Rhys saying the city is better at night and asks if he is ever going to let her see it. He says they will go out that night. She goes up to her room to get ready and Amren is there. Feyre gives her back the amulet, and Amren tells her it was useless. She just told her it wouldn’t allow her to be captured in the prison because that was what she needed at the time. She is surprised Feyre gave it back and tells her to keep it. It was a gift from Rhys a long time ago.
29. That night, the entire group goes out to a restaurant for dinner. Feyre is suprised at how good the food is. Amren still doesn’t eat, but the chef brings her out a glass of blood and she drinks it. When they are done eating, Amren disappears into the kitchen to get the rest of the blood they have saved for her. Mor says she wants to go out dancing and Cassian and Azriel agree to the idea. Cassian says he is only going to drink, not dance. Rhys tells them he is walking home and Feyre goes with him. She goes to her room and they pass flirty notes for a little bit before Feyre goes to bed.
30. Cassian starts to physically train Feyre while Rhys works with her on her other abilities.
31. Rhys has everyone gather at the House of Wind because he has had a reply from the Summer Court. They are allowing his visit. He tells them he is taking Feyre and Amren only. The others have assignments of their own to focus on, but Cassian is not sure he should be left behind with how dangerous the Summer Court is. Amren agrees to go when Rhys points out the High Lord there is still so new to the position, he probably hasn’t noticed what is in his treasury or anything that might go missing. He leaves them to discuss and Feyre chases after him to ask if there are any other suprises she needs to know about before they leave. He is sad she hasn’t forgiven him yet, but is still drawn to her.
32. They arrive at the Summer Court, Adriana. They meet the high lord, Tarquin and Feyre seems to remember him, though they haven’t met formally. Rhys introduces them. Over dinner, they navigate the politics of Prythian. Tarquin’s sister threatens to send word to Tamlin that his bride is there. Feyre says he wouldn’t go to war over her. Rhys ends the conversation by reminding them Feyre is the one that freed them all from Amarantha.
33. In her room, Rhys tells Feyre he likes these people and it would go very badly if she were caught stealing the Book of Breathing. She agrees they do not want this kingdom as their enemy. He tells her to do whatever she has to do to get the book secretly. She suggests sleeping with Tarquin and he approves. At dinner, she can’t help noticing Rhys flirting with Tarquin’s sister and is jealous. She decides she needs to be alone for a little bit and declines Tarquin’s offer of accompanying her.
34. Feyre is afraid of how she will see Rhys and … together at breakfast and skips the meal. She bathes and practices manipulating water. Tarquin shows her the different treasure rooms, but she doesn’t have any feeling of the book being around. That night when she goes to her room, Rhys is on her bed and admits he is jealous of how easy Tarquin has it being a neutral court. He doesn’t like flirting with his sister for information, but he’ll do whatever he has to to get the book and keep his people safe.
35. Feyre continues to search the rest of the city for the book. That night at dinner, she asks Tarquin about the Temple on the shore that has fallen to Ruins. The look he exchanges with his companions lets Feyre know she has found where they have hidden the book. She slips into Tarquin’s mind and makes him believe she can be trusted. She feels guilty about it, but Rhys is impressed with her ability and how smoothly she covered her tracks. When she gets to her room, there are fighting leathers on her bed waiting for her.
36. That night, Rhys flys Amren and Feyre to the Temple. He drops them off and keeps watch. Feyre and Amazon make their way into the temple’s depths and have to dig through mud and sludge to get to the hidden door. Feyre is able to make herself like Tarquin to open the door. When she gets to the book, she can feel its power and draw. It asks who she is. When it stops asking, she picks it up and it calls her a liar. Feyre and Amren are looked in the room and it quickly starts to fill with water. They make it as far as they can and Feyre uses the water to break the wall. The sisters of the water wraith she helped in the Spring Court save them. Rhys wasn’t able to stop all the guards and they winnow back to the Night Court immediately.
37. They arrive and are still soaked. Feyre explains how she had once helped the water wraiths back in the Spring Court. Amren laughs at their luck and how only Feyre would think to help the water wraiths in their time of need. Feyre pulls out the book and sees it is in a language she can’t read. It is in ancient language that is from the home of Amren. Rhys didn’t want to get her hopes up, but he thinks it could help her get home. Rhys explains an alliance he is interested in, but Cassian is not convinced it is a wise move.
38. Rhys is in a bad mood. The Summer Court send them three blood rubies for their betrayal. Feyre flirts with him to cheer him up.has a nightmare and Feyre can feel it. She goes to his room and wakes him up. He is not ready to talk about his nightmare’s, but she kisses his cheek and promises not to tell anyone.
39. Amren keeps trying to translate the book, but she needs the other half to decode it. Feyre notices she hasn’t left her home in days and brings her lambs blood. Feyre continues to train with Cassian and Rhys. Rhys and Feyre exchange flirty notes with each other. A letter comes from the queens saying they will meet with Rhys the next day. Rhys, Mor, and Feyre leave for Fryer’s family house that night.
40. The queens arrive and the meeting starts. Rhys explains they want their half of the book to stop the coming war. The queens have heard of Rhys and his reputation and ask him to prove he is who he says he is rather than who he is rumored to be.
41. Back in Velaris, the others meet to discuss their next steps. They tell Feyre the story of Mirian and how she and her fae lover ran away to an island to be left alone. They cannot give up their secret to show the queens they are good people. Rhys decides he will have to show the queens who he really is by showing them Velaris. He knows he cannot bring them there, but has an idea of how to do it without them thinking it is a trick. He says he has to visit his father’s court, the Court of Nightmares.
42. Rhys apologizes before they go on how he must act and treat Geyre while they are in the Court of Nightmares. As they fly into the Court of Nightmare, an ash arrow is fired at Feyre. When they land, Azriel goes off to find whoever fired it as well as Rhys’ orb. Mor leads the way and snaps at her own father telling him to make way first Rhys. Rhys treats Feyre like she is nothing more than a pet on his leash. Rhys holds Feyre close and lets his hands and tongue rove over her. When Mor’s father calls her a whore, Rhys starts breaking his bones until he apologizes. Azriel gives the signal that he ahas the orb.
43. Back in Velaris, they all get ready to spend their last night together in the Court of Dreams. There is a holiday that can only be celebrated in the Court of Dreams called Starfall. They watch as thousands of souls pass through the sky looking like shooting stars. Rhys takes Feyre higher to get a better view and they laugh as they each get hit in the face with the glowing dust the souls leave behind. She asks him to dance with her and they go to join the others.
44. Rhys believes the arrow that was fired at Feyre was fired by someone that can track his magic. He has decided they will stay away from the Court of Dreams for a while so no outsiders discover it. Amren will keep studying the book. Rhys takes Feyre to his mother’s old house. Devlon, who runs the camp there, says that is where his best warriors stay. Rhys orders them to get out and clean the place before they leave. He warns anyone that touches Feyre that she will take off their hands and then their heads before he grinds them to ash.
45. Rhys takes Feyre to train. She asks a lot of questions along the way. He has her practice using her powers while he talks. He tells her he got along with Tamlin, but the rest of his family was awful. One day, he was supposed to meet his mother and sister, but decided to stay back to train a camp. Tamlin told his father about the information and took Tamlin and his brothers to kill them. Rhys and his father came for their revenge. His father had promised not to kill Tamlin’s mom, but by the time Rgys got there, only Tamlin was still alive. Rhys stopped his father and Tamlin killed him. Feyre is shocked by how much of the story Tamlin had left out. Her further ignites the forest around them.
46. Feyre has been drained from using her magic all day. Mor and Cadsian have spent all day trying to train the females. They haven’t had a lesson in 10 days and are mostly sent to do chores because the males want to keep them around for breeding. She waits for Rhys to come to her room that night, but he doesn’t. In the morning, they go back out for more training.
47. Lucian shows up and tries to take Feyre back to the Spring Court. He promises things will be different and that Tamlin had only made a mistake. Feyre refuses. She tells him he did nothing to help her or stop Tamlin’s abuse when it was killing her. She cannot trust him. The fae from the Spring Court leave and Rhys and Feyre find a new spot to practice.
48. At the house, they share a bedroom. Rhys goes to get Feyre food while she changes out of her wet clothes. They crawl into bed and Feyre is cold, so Rhys warms her up. They start fooling around before going to sleep.
49. The next day, Rhys is flying and carrying Feyre when he is shot out of the sky by ash arrows. He protects Feyre as much as he can and throws her away from him before they land. Feyre follows his scent and winnows from tree to tree. She collects ash arrows she finds along the way. When she come to a fork, she follows the path that has her scent mixed with his to a cave. She kills the guards and starts sawing and pulling the ash arrows from Rhys. She tells him how in their poor, little cottage, each of the sisters had a drawer for her clothes and she painted on each in. Her own drawer was the night sky. Feyre asks about the attack and Rhys says Hybern tracked him from the little magic he used when Lucian found them. Rhys passed out.
50. Feyre knows she doesn’t know how to help him. She goes out into the woods and sets a snare. She catches the sorreal. It tells her how to save him and that Rhys is her mate. She frees the sorreal and then goes to heal Rhys with a plant and her blood. When he is awake and looking better, she asks how long he has known that she is his mate. He suspected it under the mountain, but felt it snap into place when she was remade. Amren and Mor know, and Cassian and Azriel suspect it. She is furious that he didn’t tell her. She feels like he conspired with his friends to chose what they thought was best for her. She demands he take her back to the Allerian camp and he does.
51. Feyre leaves Rhys where they land and goes up to Mor. She asks her to get her out of there. Mor takes her to a cabin high in the mountains and says only her family can winnow in. She asks Mor not to tell Rhys where she is and Mor warns her that he will look for her. Mor leaves and Feyre enjoys the solitude.
PART 3: THE HOUSE OF MIST
52. Feyre paints all day. Mor comes to visit and asks her to hear out Rhys. Feyre asks if Mor would ever consider Azriel, but she thinks he will always think he is too low for her.
53. Feyre is ready to defend Velaris. She stays at the cabin a few more days. There is an impatient knock at the door and Feyre opens it to find Rhys.
54. Feyre lets Rhys in. He tells her about how his father killed Amarantha’s friend and so she took Rhys without knowing who he really was. He tells her how he was distracted when she had him drink the poison that cursed him and he used what was left of his power to hide Velaris. He started to see glimpses of Feyre and sent her back his memories of the night sky he loved. He went to the Spring Court to spy on Tamlin and found her. He tried to forget her and denied that it was their bond. He followed her and tried to keep his feelings a secret. He knew he loved her when he killed Amarantha. He had to give her freedom to make her own choices, but when she was begging to be saved on her wedding day, he couldn’t help going to her.
55. Feyre gives him the soup she had been warming up and tells him to eat. This is a symbolic guesture of love for his people. He eats and then they have sex. They bathe and then have sex. He tells her the mortal queens are coming to her sisters house in three days. He also warns her that it usually takes a few days for the bond to calm down once it is accepted.
56. They winnow back to the camp and Cassian picks a fight with Rhys over Feyre to get some his energy out before facing the others. Mor welcomes her to the family. Rhys takes Feyre into the house and they have sex again. They go back to Velaris and have dinner together as a family in the House of Wind. They all promise to server and protect Feyre.
57. They go to Feyre’s family’s house and meet with two of the queens. Mor uses the veritas to show them Velaris. One of the queens reads the letter Rhys had sent to them begging to help him make the world better for both of their people and the woman he loves. The queens announce they will have to discuss with their sisters and get back to them at their leisure. Nesta begs them to give them the book. Cassian vows to protect her with his life. When the queens leave, the old one had left their half of the book on her chair. It feels like chaos to Feyre. They offer to take Nesta and Elain back with them, but they decide to stay in their home.
58. They go back to Velaris, but it isn’t long before Rhys has to leave again. Amren continues to study the two halves of the books trying to decode their content. Azriel and Cassian stay around the townhouse keeping an eye on Feyre. One night, while Cassian had taken Feyre to hear a symphony, Hybern’s forces attack Velaris lead by the Attor. Cassian hands Feyre a couple of weapons and tells her to get to the townhouse. Feyre starts that way, but ends up using the water in the river to attack the creatures terrorizing the city. The golden mortal queen lie dying on a skewer and Feyre realizes the queens are the ones that told Hybern about the city. She continues to fight and asks Rhys where he is. He is frantically trying to get to her. Feyre grabs the poisoned ash arrows from the ground and winnows into the sky.
59. Feyre grabs the Attor and starts to drag it down and puts the arrows into it. Rhys gets to her and holds her. The fight is over.
60. Rhys tells her the city is secure and they have spent hours helping clean up. He is proud of her helping to defend their city. He is angry at himself for giving the city the the queens. They have sex. In their next meeting Amren tells them not to put the two halves of the book together or else they will attack things that should not be awakened. Rhys says the cauldron is in the lower levels. They will winnow in and find the cauldron and destroy it. Azriel insists they go and Rhys and Mor only winnow in to retrieve them to prevent being found out. When they go to bed, Rhys tells them they are going to share a room from then on if she is fine with it. She choses her room. He shows her the ring she retrieved from the Weaver. He tells her his mother gifted it to him, but said any potential mate or wife would have to retrieve it to prove she could survive the marriage. She decides she will wait until they win the war before she wears it to keep each of them safer.
61. They have sex. The next morning, they get ready to go to Hybern. Feyre wears a half of the Book of Breath on each side and they make their way in. The book asks her to take it home and she knows she will be drawn to the couldron. They make their way to the lower levels with Azriel and Cassian killing guards on the way. They arrive at the cauldron.
62. Mor tells Feyre to hurry. Azriel tells Feyre to listen and she hears a thrumming like a heartbeat. The books beg to be put together and Feyre realizes she won’t be able to break the couldron without them together. Mor tries to stop her, but is too slow for Feyre. She puts the books together and she can feel the power. She tries to remember the first word of the spell she is supposed to say. A human male comes into the room and Feyre recognizes it is Jurian from they eye that was kept in Amarantha’s ring.
63. Jurian is there as a distraction while the spell has been put in place to keep them there. Rhys is there, but Feyre can’t feel the bond behind them. The King of Hybern arrives and shoots Azriel with a poisoned ash arrow. They have no choice to go with him. He has already made the couldron disappear. They get to the throne room. Tamlin and Lucian step out from the shadows. He tells them he has completed his end of the bargain.
64. Tamlin had agreed to let Hybern use the Spring Court as a base of operations to take down the wall. Jurian wanted the king of the Night Court and his inner circle. Tamlin orders Feyre to come home with him. Rhys stays by Azriel to prevent Tamlin or Hybern from sensing their mating bond. Feyre agrees to go with him if they let her friends go. Tamlin lunges for her, but she winnows away. She undoes the spell on her, but Hybern realizes Rhys is her mate and laughs. More monsters start to fill up the room. She scolds Tamlin for going to Hybern in his tantrum over losing her. Hybern makes the couldron reappear and tells Feyre it is in her best interest to behave how he wants. He has the four mortal queens and her sisters brought in.
65. The queens were promised a taste of immortality. Ianthe was promised a Pythian ruled by high priestesses instead of high lords. Cassian’s wings are hurt. Azriel is in pain. The king tells his guards to put Elain in the couldron. Feyre begs the king to spare her sister, but she goes under the water and Nesta screams. The couldron tips over and Elain comes out as a fairy. Lucian goes to her and puts his coat around her. Nesta goes next and she points a curse at him before she is pushed under. When she comes out, she rushes over to Elain and pushes Lucian away to hold her. Lucian announces that Elain is his mate.
66. Feyre pretends to break a curse that Rhys had put on her. She begs the king to free her from their mating bond. He plays along. She tells Tamlin to take her home and let them go. She tries to tell Rhys she can’t take anymore death and to protect her sisters. Feyre and Rhys are in pain as the bond is broken. Feyre faints for a few seconds.
67. Feyre gives her friends a final look to say goodbye. Mor grabs Nesta and Elain and gets them out through the hole Feyre made in the king’s wall. They leave. The queens head to the couldron. Jurian comes over to mock Lucian for his mate being taken by Illerians. The king thought Feyre had the book, but she tells him he was mistaken. She threatens the king for what he did to her sisters.
68. Rhys and his inner circle get back to the townhouse and gives Amren the book. Mor heals Azriel and tells her how Tamlin gave them all to the king in exchange for Feyre. Rhys and Mor tell Amren the rest. Amren tells them it isn’t possible for anyone to break the bond. Rhys tells them there was a second tattoo on Feyre’s other arm because he swore her in as the High Lady of the Night Court. He knew Feyre saw no other alternative and he intends to rip everyone to shreds that has come between them. He is hoping having Lucian’s mate will work in their favor.
69. Feyre pretends to be happy to be back in the manor of the Spring Court. She tries to explain that seeing Tamlin helped her free herself. Lucian is suspicious and doesn’t believe her lies. She keeps her tattoo hidden under a glamour. She can feel Rhys slightly through their bond. When Tamlin says he is going to speak to Ianthe about what happened, she asks to be included. Tamlin says he knows he went about things the wrong way before and intends to include her in what is going on. Feyre intends to take down his court and keep Lucian under her thumb by threatening him to never see his mate again.
