Immortals 6
Alyson Noel
Ever is worried about the swampy area of Summerland. She notices that it is spreading and that Haven’s grave has become like it. Damen wants to have fun on their break from school, but Ever wants to investigate the changes. Damen agrees to give it one week. They decide to start their search at the Great Halls of Learning. When they arrive, they find Jude researching why he keeps getting in Ever’s way. He tells them that he thinks that Damen and Ever’s problem stems from their immortality.
Damen and Ever decide to give up on the search and go to the pavilion. Ever gets frustrated with the past and goes out of character. She voices her wonder about Damen’s past lives. She starts thinking about the swampy Summerland and wonders what the numbers in the riddle might mean. She wonders if there are other lives they weren’t shown while in the Shadowland.
They go back to see the old lady whose name is Lotus. She tells Ever that she has to make the journey alone to fulfill her destiny. Damen, Ever, Miles and Jude start working on solving the puzzle.
Ever goes to look in on Sabine. Mr. Munoz catches her and starts asking questions. Sabine calls him and Damen and Ever leave before they have to answer anything. They talk about their situation and Ever decides to take the journey.
No one is around when Ever goes to say her goodbyes to her friends except Jude. When she arrives in Summerland to start her journey, she finds her friends there with gifts for her. Damen doesn’t show up. The twins give her an obouros amulet and Ava give her a stone with psychic healing powers and links to past lives. Jude says that he’s going with Ever, but she protests. Lotus announces that Jude can go with her and starts leading the way. Damen shows up to see Ever and Jude holding hands, but they are swept back in time by a vortex of force. They go back to the very beginning.
Alrik will be king someday and is promised to Adelina’s rich cousin, Esme. As it turns out Alrik’s brother Rhys is in love with Esme. Heath, a knight in Alrik’s court, asks Adelina to marry him, but she refuses. Alrik says that he’s going to marry Adelina the next day and that his father will have to accept it eventually. Alrik invites Heath into the stable where he and Adelina are secretly meeting. He asks his friend to keep their secrets and escort Adelina home. Heath lays out the tragic love line of their friends and offers Adelina a way out by marrying him instead of Alrik. She refuses again.
The next morning, Rhys arrives to pick up Adelina to take her to the wedding. She does not trust him until he gives her a note that Alrik wrote her. She goes with him to a hunting lodge. Later that night, she wakes from a dream of a hooded figure chasing her. She has had prophetic dreams her whole life and now knows that she will die before she can marry Alrik. She sleeps with him.
In the morning, Alrik leaves to finish the wedding plans. Adelina is expecting a maid, but Esme shows up instead. Fiona, Esme’s sister who is in love with Rhys, finds out about the secret through Rhys’ latest conquest. Esme has already told everyone and now pulls up her black cloak becoming the image from her dream. Adelina is paralyzed and dying when Alrik returns. Alrik blames Rhys for her death and tells his brother that he can have everything he wanted: the crown and Esme. Heath brings a doctor and Alrik begs him for the rumored elixir that would save her life. The doctor refuses. Heath says he might know where to find it and leave to find out. Adelina dies before Heath returns. The woman that he brought back tries to help with the elixir, but promises nothing. Adelina realizes in her death that everything is eternal and goes through the veil to the other side.
Back with Lotus, Ever watches the rest of Alrik’s life. He is miserable and seeks revenge. He has the witch and her two apprentices that tried to help her killed. Then he marries Esme and becomes King, but is brought down by a revolt lead by his brother. Ever figures out the connections between that life and this one. Adelina = Ever. Alrik = Damen. Heath = Jude. Rhys = Roman. Esme = Drina. Fiona = Haven. Doctor = Miles. Witch = Ava. Apprentices = Twins. She also realizes that they have been making the same mistakes in all of their lives. Lotus explains that she was not allowed to see that life in the Great Halls because she was not ready for the information it holds. Damen arrives and explains that he realizes that he keeps messing up. Jude is there in every life to protect Ever from Damen. Damen is meant to grieve.
A boat arrives and Ever and Damen start going down the River of Forgetfulness. The river is where souls go before they are reborn so that they don’t remember their past lives. Ever reveals to Damen that their painful lives are because of his attachment to the physical world. They need to remember that the soul and love are eternal. There is a storm that they have to bear while still remembering. The boat is torn apart and Ever goes under.
Ever wakes up in a desert with two suns in the sky and all of her memories are missing. She finds the stone that Ava gave her in her pocket. She sees her soul’s aura for the first time and realizes that she can’t die, only her body can. Rain starts to fall to relieve her of the pain from the suns.
Ever travels back to the murky muddy place and runs into the exact scene from her dream. People are trapped in glass cells reliving their lives. Ever uses the stone that Ava gave her to cut the glass and frees the first soul. Ever finds Damen wondering around the souls as well, feeling guilty about having started all of it. Ever has Damen release Drina. They have a moment before Drina apologizes to Ever. Drina releases Roman, who gives them the recipe for the antidote. They are finally together and they release Haven. Haven finally knows her place and is happy with herself. The three rouges leave together into the light.
Damen and Ever are excited to celebrate their victory by making the antidote. Lotus appears and tells them that they must decide between an immortal life or an immortal soul. Lotus claims that she is one of the orphans and Damen and Ever should continue their journey to set it all right. Lotus shows them her life story.
Wondering through life as an orphan, Lotus married several times, but always had to leave when she didn’t age. She travelled, learned, and inadvertently strengthened her chakras. Eventually, she found true love, but the man refused to drink the elixir to be with her. He said that he would try not to reincarnate so that he could wait for her and they could be together in their next life. She tried to convince the other orphans not to drink any more elixir, but they laughed at her. By the time she learned of the journey, she was too old to go on it. She finally found Ever.
Lotus reminds Ever of a tiny bag she gave her containing “everything Ever thinks she needs.” It has all of the ingredients for the antidote, but Ever realizes that they need more to be happy. They need to journey to the Tree of Life. Damen is upset about Ever’s decision and she tries to explain that the fruit from the tree is the only solution. Damen thinks that the tree is a myth, even if it is real, it is only supposed to produce one piece of fruit every thousand years.
Ever starts her journey alone, letting Summerland guide her. She follows a trail and hits a blizzard. Since she’s not able to manifest, she has to bear through the quickly changing seasons. On the second day of walking the path, she thinks she hears Damen calling and she embraces him before she realizes that it’s Rafe, not Damen. Ever is uneasy about this, but she continues on with him following. When Rafe asks about Roman, Ever gives him an honest answer. She sees the tree in the distance and then Rafe positions himself to attack her. Ever realizes that he has aged because he is out of elixir. He tells her about the reunions that Roman used to have every century and half, distributing the elixir. She tries to trick him into thinking that she doesn’t need the fruit when Misa and Marco arrive. Ever suggests that they each take a bite of the fruit and give the rest to Lotus. The three immortals see the tree, push over the side of the abyss that surrounds the path, and head for the fruit. She pulls herself up by the roots of the Tree of Life. By the time she gets to the tree, Rafe has the fruit. He takes a bite and passes it along to Misa and Marco who finish it. Ever notices that the fruit grows back quickly and picks as many as she can carry. She sees an amazing light and realizes that Rafe, Misa, and Marco have achieved enlightenment.
Back on the Earth plane, Ever goes to see Jude to make sure that he made it back from the first part of their journey. They talk about his role in her lives, but he refuses to believe that he never loved her. Ever asks about his relationship with Honor, but he isn’t sure himself.
Next Ever goes to see Sabine to explain everything that has been going on since the accident with her family. They forgive each other and Sabine tells ever that her and Munoz are engaged. They stay up late talking and Ever stays in her old room. She goes back to school and Damen is there because he promised Ever he would while she was gone. Ever offers him the herb to finish the antidote or the fruit. She explains her plan to offer the fruit to all of the immortals. She is hoping that her and Damen can eat the fruit together. She then starts back into her normal life, making up all of the work she missed. Jude and Ava start reading Roman’s journals to find the other immortals. Romy and Rayne make the invites to Ever’s party. She doesn’t hear anything from Damen in that time.
Ever graduates, but misses having Damen and Haven with her in the process. Stacia and Honor talk about helping Ever set up for her party. Ever didn’t even realize that the twins invited more than just the immortals or that the theme was “come as you were” in a past life. She goes home and the surprises continue as the decorations for the party are very intricate. Ever makes her costume using a little piece of each of her lives and topping it off with the wings that Damen had painted on her.
At the party, everyone seems to be dressed as someone famous. Only Jude was also dressed as one of his past lives, an artist from Amsterdam. Lotus shows up looking even older on the Earth plane than she did in Summerland. She leads Ever to where the immortals are waiting. She explains that Roman is gone, and that they have a choice. They can take her elixir and have youth and beauty for another 150 years, or they can eat the fruit. Rafe, Misa, and Marco are there and explain the wonders of the fruit. Ever and Lotus leave them to make their choices. Lotus then gathers all of Ever’s friends out back and eats the fruit. She gives Ever two lotuses and tells Ever to go find Damen. Then she is escorted to the afterlife by her husband.
Ever goes to Damen’s house. He is unwilling to eat the fruit because he thinks that Ever won’t love him as a mortal. Ever notices that Damen has the antidote in his hand. She gives him a lotus. As Ever is about to give up on Damen and leave him behind he drops the antidote and says that he wants Ever. They eat the fruit together and are finally able to touch each other. They go to a place that Ever manifested before going to Damen’s house and are finally together. Damen attempts to manifest a tulip but fails. They find that they can still share thoughts and go to Summerland. Damen takes them from Summerland to a plane to Europe. He has plans for them to backpack across Europe. One the plane, Ever sees Riley on the wing with their dog. The tulip that Damen tried to manifest earlier appears.
