How To Train Your Dragon 6
Cressida Cowell
1. Hiccup is on a window ledge 300 feet high trying to break into the Meathead library to steal a book on his twelfth birthday. He is worried what the hairy scary librarian will do if he is caught. He loses his concentration and slips. He is able to catch himself with one arm, but screams as the rest of him hangs. The Meathead guards below see him and start to fire their bows.
2. Earlier that day, February 29, Hiccup woke up and tried to get Toothless to eat his vegetables and wood. Toothless refuses and Hiccup goes to the Burgaling Competition without him. In his way, Hiccup runs into Snotlout who has his friend take Hiccup’s shirt and throw him in the mud. When Hiccup finally meets up with his friends, Camicazi has burgled many things, including Stoick’s underpants. Hiccup is worried about his father’s bad mood since they lost every event to the Bog Burglars. When they get back to his house, they see toothless didn’t eat his breakfast and instead had eaten part of Stoick’s new throne.
3. There isn’t much time to react before Stoick comes home to find his burnt and chewed up thrown. Fishlegs tries to sell him in the destructive Viking look if the throne and Stoick almost goes for it until he sits on the chair and it collapses. He is furious. He tells Hiccup he needs to stop reading and writing book and start preparing to become the Hooligan chief. He adds if Toothless messes up again, he will banish the dragon. He has come up with an idea to prove to Bertha the Hooligans are as good at burglary as the Bog Burglars. He leaves to start looking for the only book on the island as the library is one of the scariest and most guarded places around. When he is gone, Hiccup asks if Toothless has done anything else they need to worry about. Toothless points out the shredded book “How to Train Your Dragon” in the corner.
4. Toothless says he started eating the book and had moved onto the chair it was sitting on. Camicazi tells Hiccup he could steal another copy from the Meathead Library since the Hairy Scarey Librarian is the only one guarding it. When Hiccup reluctantly agrees, Camicazi leads them to the stables so they can steal her mom’s stealth dragon her mother stole from the Murderous Tribe.
5. Camicazi is prepared to steal the dragon whether or not the boys go with her. He decides to go and then so does Fishlegs. Once they are all aboard the dragon’s back, Hiccup asks him to take them to the Meathead Library. He put up his back spines to conceal them and takes off quickly. It isn’t long before they are there and Hiccup can see all the guards. They tell the stealth dragon to wait for them. Everyone else is able to get through the window and Hiccup is the last one to go in when he gets distracted and slips.
6. Hiccup calls for the stealth dragon, but it got hungry and is off hunting the squirrelserpent. His friends are able to pull him in the window. The guard’s driller dragons chase him but are too big to get through the window. One tries to force its way in starts breaking the walls to do so. Hiccup throws a statuette at it and kills it. Fishlegs is terrified and wishing they hadn’t come when there’d hit itchyworms show up on the floor. Hiccup reminds them as long as they have dragon scale shoes on, they will be fine. Camicazi pulls out her mood dragon, Stormfly, to help them through the maze of the library to find the book. Camicazi tells them Stormfly speaks Norse and lies. Toothless introduces himself and she lies about likin him, turning purple as she compliments him. Toothless doesn’t notice and gets a bit excited. Camicazi asks Stormfly to lead them to the animal training book and Camicazi goes the opposite way Stormfly tells them.
7. The Murderous tribe is generally left alone either because of their viciousness or the horrible smell from their dietMadguts, chief of the Murderous tribe, never speaks. He has one of his men, Gumboil, check the stable where he kept his Stealth Dragon. They send sniffers out after the dragon. Madguts grunts and Gumboil gives the order for the army of 50 Vikings to go find the missing dragon.
8. The three Vikings heroes make their way to the exotic animals section. Hiccup longs to learn from all the books surrounding him. They find a second edition copy of How to Train Your Dragon and take it. As they are getting ready to leave, they run into a tall, skinny something that shushes them and pulls out its heart slicers.
9. Hiccup and his friends find themselves face to face with the Hairy Scary Librarian. He tells them they are not allowed to leave with book, but Hiccup insists he cannot leave without it. The Librarian starts sword fighting with Hiccup and Camicazi at the same time. He is surprised when they last longer than he expected fighting him. Hiccup figures the Librarian is a FlashMaster taught by renowned sword fighter Flashburn. After the Librarian confirms it, Hiccup tells Fishlegs to look for a book by Flashburn to see if they have any hope of surviving. Fishlegs finds the book, but before he can find anything useful in it, he sees the Librarian lunging both left and right to kill Hiccup and Camicazi. Fishlegs throws the book at their foe’s head. The Librarian falls to the ground and is overcome with itchyworms. He tries to keep quiet, but busts out laughing as they make him feel like he is being tickled everywhere. He leaves them screaming to evacuate the building. Camicazi tries to wake up Stormfly, who got hit by the Librarian’s hand on his way down to the ground.
10. Stormfly wakes up, but has lost her memory. She doesn’t remember where they are let alone how to get them back out of the library. Hiccup asks her to try and they follow her as she flies belligerently through the stacks. Hiccup can hear the far off driller dragons and knows they are headed to where the Librarian had been screaming. After a while of walking, they decide to rest, but Fishlegs accidentally pokes Toothless in the stomach when he leans agains a bookshelf. Toothless yells out and a stampede of driller dragons start to come for them.
11. The three Viking Heroes run around the library looking for a way to escape the driller dragons. Camicazi leads them up a ladder and into a new corridor. As they continue running, they meet a driller dragon. They make it to a room and start to build a wall of books. Hiccup looks at the shelves and sees a book called “A Hero’s Guide to Deadly Dragons” written by Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the Second. He is drawn to the book and pulls it off the shelf. He soon finds it was the only real book in the shelf. The rest were fakes meant to hide a door. It swings open and has a tunnel that leads outside. Camicazi is eager to get to the tunnel, but Hiccup stops her . He points out all the little Poisonous Piffleworms that are sleeping in the tunnel. One bite would kill a person in a quarter of a second.
12. Hiccup tries desperately to remember what he had written in his notebook about piffleworms. He remembers that he is holding his ancestor’s version of a book about dealing with deadly dragons. He opens it and finds two baby piffleworms chewing on the pages. He closes the book and drops it just before they can bite him. He racks his brain until he remembers that whistling will make them freeze up. The Vikings and Toothless all try to whistle, but are to afraid to be successful. Hiccup asks Stormfly to and she does. The piffleworms freeze up and they make their way into the tunnel. Stormfly is still zipping around the room thinking they are playing a game with the driller dragons. They grab her and pull her into the tunnel, but Fishlegs isn’t able to close the door before four driller dragons enter the room. As he tries to close the door, one is able to get its drill stuck in the door to prevent it from closing.
13. Hiccup carefully picks up one of the frozen Piffleworms and throws it at the driller dragons. They all scamper as quickly as they can away from it and Fishlegs slams the door shut. Hiccup calls for the Stealth Dragon and he appears asking where they’d like to go. Hiccup tells him they are going back to Berk. They notice the smell of rotten eggs in the air. In the sky, there are Murderous Vikings being carried by their ridding dragons and being dropped off at the door of the Meathead Public Library. The Mestheads rush out to right them, but the Murderous tribe has much better fighters and quickly wins the battle. Hiccup has the Stealth dragon fly low and they go between the cliffs of the two sides of the Meathead islands. Hiccup points out the stealth dragon isn’t untraceable. A tracker at the library door points out they need to go to Berk.
14. Stoick has been looking for the book and Hiccup, but none of the Hooligans have been able to find either. Bertha comes along to get his proof that the Hooligans are better burglars than the Bog Burglars. He tells her the book has disappeared and she thinks it was never there. She takes him down to the stable to show him the Stealth Dragon she stole from Madguts the Murderous. When Stoick walks into the stable, there is nothing there and he thinks she has been joking. He offers to pay her in invisible axes for winning the bet. A voice tells them both to come out of the stable with their arms up.
15. Stoick and Bertha are still in the stable when the Hairy Scary Librarian shows up. He knows it was their kids that were at the library stealing books. He is furious they didn’t let him kill them upon their discovery in the library. Stoick is secretly proud of Hiccup for fighting back. The librarian fires his Northbow arrow and it takes off one of Bertha’s plaits. The next one he fires into Stoick’s chest. Stoick pulls the arrow out of his chest like nothing happened. The Librarian is shocked because no one has survived a Northbow arrow previously. Before he has a chance to fire another arrow, the stealth dragon lands on top of him squishing him flat.
16. Hiccup’s plan was to replace the book and return the dragon before anyone knew they were gone. When he sees his dad and Bertha on the wrong end of the Librarian’s bow, he tells the Stealth Dragon to land on the Librarian. The dragon does as he’s asked.
17. The three Viking children dismount from the Stealth Dragon. Stormfly compliments the Stealth Dragon on squishing the Librarian and Toothless gets jealous. Bertha starts to scold Camicazi. As she is shrieking at her daughter about not stealing from certain places because they are too dangerous, Madguts has been approaching with 50 of his stealth warriors. Stormfly recognizes the smell and her memory starts to return. They all have their bows strung and pointing at Bertha. Madguts mumbles to Gumboil. Gumboil reaches into his bag to pull out the Number 6 sword, which is very long and sharp.
18. Before any fighting begins, Hiccup tells Madguts there has been a misunderstanding. He tells them the librarian had originally stolen the Stealth dragon and that Bertha knew it couldn’t my have belonged to the Librarian as soon as he saw it. He goes on to tell them Bertha squished the Librarian and saved the dragon to be returned. Madguts believes the story. He gives Bertha his number six sword, gets on his Secret Weapon, and flies off. Gumboil tells them Madguts believed their story, but he doesn’t. He warns Bertha about stealing from the Murderous tribe again. The Librarian is carried off to the Uglithug Slavelands.
19. Stoick is very pleased with how everything turned out. He mocks Bertha for losing their bet, but she hands over two of her best axes from her belt. She is rather pleased with the new sword she acquired from Madguts and Murderous swords are hard to come by. Stoick says he got Hiccup a new sword for Hiccup for his birthday. Hiccup explains that he likes his current sword and what he would really like is to lift the ban on books and reopen the Meathead Public Library to the Public again. He points out how the books saved them in the library. Stoick pulls Hiccup’s copy of A Hero’s Guide to Deadly Dragons from his breast pocket. He tells Hiccup he will need to rewrite the book since The Northbow arrow shot through it instead of Stoick. He says he will talk to the Thing about the library. Stoick and Bertha head down to Hiccup’s birthday banquet. Camicazi says it was a good day and Hiccup ultimately agrees with her. Toothless offers to lead Stormfly down to the banquet because he knows where the food is being kept. Hiccup yells after them to stay out of the food and reminds Toothkess he was the reason they ended up at the library in the first place. Stormfly promises they will behave, but turns purple as they fly away.
Epilogue
At the next meeting of the Thing, Stoick keeps his promise to lift the ban on books. His influence was great enough to make it happen and the library was opened to the public.
