Daughter of Smoke & Bone 3
Laini Taylor
1. Eliza wakes up screaming from one of her dreams. She has had dreams of such horrible monsters her whole life and had to have a pacemaker put in her when she was seven because one of them stopped her heart. Her roommate Gabriel comes in to check on her. She tells him she is fine, but then she starts sobbing into her blanket. He goes to make her tea. When she goes out to their shared kitchen, he also has a bowl of ice cream put out for her. He tells her it is a family tradition. He asks if she wants to talk about her nightmares, but when she says no, he starts telling her about his from when he was a kid. Eliza is just about calmed down when her phone starts to ring. She looks at the number and throws it across the room. She hopes it is broken, but it starts to buzz again. She looks at the text that tells her to turn on the TV. Gabriel starts getting similar messages on his phone. They hear screaming coming from outside and within their apartment building. They turn on the news to see thousands of angels are coming out of the sky. Eliza gets a message telling her to come home and that they forgive her.
2. People all over the world react to the appearance of the angles. Eliza and Gabriel rush to the museum to join their colleagues. Zuzana and Mik steal a van. An older woman walking her mastiffs takes them home.
3. Zuzana drives like crazy to get back to the kasbah they had just left under the cover of invisibility. She had to warn Karou that the angels where already there. When she arrives, she finds Karou in bad shape. She and Akiva seem to have taken over the revolution. Thiago is not happy to see them. Zuzana looks to Issa for guidance, but Issa gives a smile and a shrug.
4. Everyone is shocked when Thiago doesn’t kill Akiva and his sister, Liraz. Only a few of them know that Thiago is really Ziri inside. Akiva tells them a thousand angels have come over to their side, but the rest are waiting on the other side of the portal in the sky. He doesn’t know if there are more on the other side of their portal as well. Thiago sends a group to stealthily check and send back a messenger. When the others wait for Thiago’s orders, he sends away the people he knows Thiago never would have trusted with his plans, including Karou. She plays the broken doll, but signals Akiva with a quick movement of her hand over her heart. She leads Issa, Zuzana, and Mik away.
5. Akiva sees Karou touch her heart and is determined to get his army to join the cause. He and Liraz meet privately with Thiago and Tens. Liraz tries to goad Thiago, and Akiva is surprised that the wolf keeps a cool head. Akiva tells them he killed the king, the father of the Begotten. As they continue talking, Akiva notices Thiago is different than previous meetings. Thiago says he knows Akiva is the one that saved Ziri when the angels attacked him while he was gathering souls. When Akira asks about Ziri, Thiago (who is now Ziri) tells him he died. Thiago points out that the one that tortured him is the angel they both want dead: Jael. Akiva tells him they can tell the difference because Jael’s men where white and his men wear black. As they walk away, Akiva isn’t sure if he is making a mistake.
6. The chimera prepare to go back home to Eres. Some will have to be carried through the portal. Zuzana and Mik are going with them. Virko volunteers to take Zuzana and once they are in the air, he moves about so she isn’t steady. Karou threatens to make his next reincarnation miserable and he stops. Akiva and Liraz fly beside them. One of the chimera, Keita-Eiri, thinks it is funny to show of her hands that could hurt the angels. Thiago scolds her for antigonizing their allies. Karou worries that Ziri won’t be able to fool Thiago’s officers.
7. They go through the portal and find the sky is white and grey instead of blue. THey leave the portal open instead of having Akiva scorch it closed so they can return to Earth and start the apocalypse. Karou is about to go find Issa some clothes for her to keep warm when a herd of Stormhunters (birds, largest animals in their world) fly overhead. The force of the wings are enough to knock some of the chimera over. No one knows anything about them except that they are too elusive to be hunted or caught. Karou is amazed at the sight of them.
8. Melliel has been well kept as a prisoner with her Misbegotten comrades. The Stelian guards are on edge as the Stormhunter numbers grow in the sky. They have been well fed, but there is a round fruit none of them can seem to stomach. Melliel asks what is happening to the sky to make it appear bruised. Eidolon tells her it doesn’t concern her. When Melliel asks what will be done with them, Eidolon says they will be used for practice. She says they can’t just let them go after what they have done. The queen will decide what to do with them when she comes back from hunting. Time seems to flicker as Eidolon leaves. Melliel and the other Misbegotten are suprised that it is suddenly night.
9. The angels go to Vatican City and is greeted by the pope. Eliza and her colleagues watch on TV from the Museum in DC. Morgan Toth comments on the creatures not being actual celestial beings. He compares it to being an alien landing. She tries to point out how this is so much worse because it involves religion which people are willing to fight and die for. She agrees with him that religious belief is not the most scientifically sound thing to back. Eliza keeps quiet reminding herself she has her own secrets to keep. The announcer says the angels are going to make a statement.
10. The angel with the helmet on starts talking. He tells them they have been fighting away from their world to keep the beasts from coming for them. Their sins have made them stronger and they need their help to continue fighting them.
11. Akiva faces the rest of the Misbegotten forces. They are laughing at his suggesting they ally with the 87 remaining chimera. He tries to tell them they have a common enemy. He tells them his brother, Hazael is dead. The Misbegotten are silent. He explains how it happened and how Jael planned to use what happened to the Prince to damn all the Misbegotten. He tells them the chimera has a new resurrectionist and offered to save Hazael, but it was too wait. The others agree to join with the chimera.
12. Mik and Zuzana are huddled together I keep warm in the cold climate. They discuss the merits and fownfalls of being inside a Taun-Taun (Star War reference). Mik decides to go up to Lorax and ask if she will help warm the freezing masses with the heat from her wings. Karou and Zuzana watch hopefully, but Lorax just turns away from him. He returns to them and Zuzana says he is her hero for trying.
13. Karou has so much riding on the alliance between the chimera and the misbegotten that she can’t sleep. Thiago brings her some tea. He asks how he is doing as Thiago and Karou tells him she forgets it not really him sometimes. He tells her to never forget he is really Ziri. He asks if she remembers the place their tribe came from. She tells him about it and he hopes to have some time alone there with her. She freezes and he tells her not romantically, but because he is always worried someone will figure out the truth. Karou feels selfish for not being able to love him back. Siri misses his original body’s ability to fly as it was a good way to relieve stress.
14. Liraz goes over to the group of sleeping chimera and the two humans. She sees them shivering and spreads her wings out to warm them. When Akiva returns, he tells her the Misbegotten have agreed to join them. She tells him the chimera call Karou Angel Lover as an insult, but warns him it doesn’t mean she still loves him.
15. The humans’ responses to the arrival of the angels are various. Eliza decides to stay at at the lab because it has security. She isn’t sure if someone would be waiting for her at the apartment. She contemplates why the lead angel has the helmet that splits his face in half and can’t quite figure out what makes him see wrong. When CNN finally translates the speech to English, she reads that the beasts are coming.
16. The Misbegotten are silent and stiff as the Chimera start to arrive at the Kirin Caves. Karou feels like she is arriving home. It is a great effort for the Misbegotten keep their hands off the swords which is where they have been trained to keep them. The Chimera land and enter the cave and Akiva is hopeful.
17. A few of the Misbegotten flinch from one of the Chimera flashing their hamsas. Arrows are fired at the Chimera in retaliation and one lands in Uthem’s throat. One hits Thiago and he falls out of the sky. The two small armies are poised to kill each other.
18. Thiago gets up off the ground and time feels like it stops for everyone around him. He tells them they cannot start fighting or else they will not be able to face Jael. He promises them the one that used their hamsas against them would be punished appropriately. Akiva agrees that just because they got off to a bad start doesn’t mean they should stop completely. Karou is given the opportunity to collect Other’s soul into a thurible. She tells them she hasn’t resurrected a seraph yet, but she will if that is what they choose. She asks them to step aside and allow them to enter because she is Kirin (though she doesn’t look it just then) and they are in her home. Liraz ask Akiva how Thiago slowed time. Akiva wants to laugh because he was actually the one to do it; Thiago just took advantage of it while Akiva was recovering from the magical blowback.
19. A pulse of magic surges across Eretz. Five Stelians are gathered and can feel Akiva’s power. The queen, Scarab, orders their hunt to continue.
20. Darkness is spreading. The storm hunters can feel the bruised sky is falling and start to scream.
21. Karou and Thiago lead the others into the Kirin caves. They walls are high enough of the Kirin to have flown in them. The center cavern is cold and she leaves it for the Seraph. She leads the Chimera into one of the tunnels that will take them to a section where Kirin lived and would utilize geothermal heat. She doesn’t take them to where she had lived. She wants to leave that untouched until she can check it out on her own.
22. Zuzana and Mik play a game where they discuss wishes when Karou comes in. She feels guilty for dragging them along, but they insist they made the choice themselves. She gives them some dried peaches and then takes them down to the hot springs and gives them some privacy to bathe.
23. On her way back through the tunnels, Thiago pulls Karou aside into an empty room. He breathes easy for a few seconds knowing he can be himself: Ziri. She asks if any of the officers are suspicious. He says they have noticed the change, but no one has spoken up about it. They joke for a minute and when they leave the room smiling, Akiva sees them. He tells them to choose their representatives and turns around and walks back the other way. Karou feels guilty.
24. The chosen representatives meet. The first idea is to close the portal and leav Jael and his men stranded on Earth. Both Jarou and Liraz are opposed to this idea. Karou tries to tell them they can’t leave the humans subject to Jael. Liraz wants to kill her uncle. It is discussed whether the chimera and Misbegotten should be kept separate for any fighting because the hamsas would give them an advantage against Jael. When they break, Karou realizes she only has a few hours to come up with a plan that would allow them all to work together to save both worlds.
25. Liraz is frustrated, but sees Akiva is concentrating and leaves him alone. Akiva goes to his place of pain to think and work his magic. Karou starts heading down to where Zuzana and Mik are to continue resurrections. Meets Issa along the way and expresses her frustration on how the humans will die because of their war. She smells human food and has an idea.
26. Eliza has horrible dreams and is about to wake up screaming when her rival walks through the door and starts mocking her. Others start to arrive along with a few federal agents. They asks the scientist, Dr. zzz to come with them and he asks to bring an assistant with him. When they agree, he asks Eliza and she goes with him. They are in a car with no idea where they are going. When Eliza asks, they tell her they will be briefed when they arrive.
27. Karou goes back to Zuzana, Mik and Issa. Zuzana has been putting stings of teeth together in akarous absence and sets them aside for approval. She says she is tempted to teach Zuzana the magic to resurrect. Zuzana is willing to learn and thinks it would be a better use of her life than puppet shows for tourists. Karou debates who she can bring back that will agree with their alliance but not be too suspicious that Thiago isn’t making the calls. She decides the Dashag boy Ziri told her about would be I the yes pile. She makes 9 bodies before they run out of the room. Zuzana prepares them for souls. Thiago comes in and tells Karou he extended the invitation to eat together to the Seraphim. The bodies are awakened.
28. Ones the souls are resurrected into their new bodies, they all go to join the others to eat. Mik suggests music might help lessen the tension between in the room and starts playing his violin. The Dashag boy tells the chimera how Akiva and Lorax had pretended not to see them and let them go. This also helps easy the Chimera’s feelings toward the Misbegotten. Karou pretends to be tired and leaves the dinner. She makes herself invisible before heading back in and looking for Akiva.
29. Thiago is dragged away by a chimera telling him they have started his plan. He doesn’t know what they are talking about. Karou hopes she will be able to find Akiva and that he wants her too. Chimera attack Liraz and she kills three before she faces off against Ten. Liraz remembers killing her original body. They fight.
30. Karou and Akivw find each other and finally are able to talk. He realizes he doesn’t really know Karou as well as he thought he did. She thanks him for bringing her Issa. She tells him how Thiago had attacked her and she killed him. The Thiago they was waking around is actually Ziri. Akiva realizes that is why he has been able to work with Thiago. He is jealous that Ziri was the one to help her. She makes it clear she can forgive him for everything he has done and that she wouldn’t be where she is without all the help he has given her. He is willing to work with her as long as needed to be able to stay with her.
31. Thiago arrives to see Ten and two other Chimera holding Liraz who is barely alive. Ten challenges him and she snaps her necks. The other two apologize for following Ten, but Thiago says he knows they cannot think he was so stupid to give an order that would jeopardize their coming battle. He strips them of their rank and tells them they will tithe pain after the coming battle. He orders them to glean the three souls. Or drags Ten’s body and carefully carries Liraz with the other arm. He dumps Ten’s body and takes Liraz to the healing water. Her wings barely glows, but brightens as she is in it. He wants to tell her who he really is. He tells her they haven’t really been introduced.
32. Akiva and Karou discuss the merits of having mixed battalions of their separate kinds. Akiva touches her and she is surprised to find she can touch him as well. Thiago brings Liraz to them and they find them touching each other. Thiago throws Ten’s body over the threshold and fills them in on what happened. Karou doesn’t understand the betrayal. Liraz tells her it was personal and she deserved Ten’s revenge. Karou sees the black mark Liraz left on Ten and has an idea. Karou tells them to call a meeting of the counsel. She has a better idea.
33. Eliza doesn’t get much sleep as she and Dr. Chaudhary are taken to Morocco on a plane. They are taken to the Casbah where the Chimera had been staying and told they will be shown the Pit.
34. Eliza has to sign a lot of papers before being put into a hazmat suit and told that what they see is not to be told to anyone. They agree and are lead down to the pit. She points out that the wings on one of the creatures is from owl. They check for seams on the creatures, but don’t find any. Eliza already knows there is another dimension. She remembers her mother telling her she had a gift. She has avoided being another in a long line of “prophets” that get locked up for being crazy. She gets back to work. They see the bodies laid out until they get to Ziri’s that was buried separately. She starts to wonder about him. She asks where the Chimera went and the man points up into the mountains saying a few hysterical witness saw them go up.
35. Razget is telling Jael what to say. Jael is still disgusted with him and wants to be rid of him, but he knows he still needs him and his plan to win over the humans and their weapons.
36. Gabriel asks Morgan if he has seen Eliza. Morgan just says that she isn’t there. Gabriel has her phone and it has been getting a lot of messages. Morgan says she should be back and offers to have him leave the phone with him. Morgan waits five minutes after Gabriel leaves to pick up Eliza’s phone.
37. The Misbegotten have their own hamsas that make them immune tot he Chimera’s. The first part of Karoums plan will take her back to Earth before Akiva. He asks Liraz if she can protect Karou and refrain from killing Jael. Liraz says he can. She suggests Akiva go to the healing pools. Akiva is getting ready and thinking about Karou when he feels a presence enter the room. He says her name, but quickly realizes the presence is bad. Karou appears a few seconds later hoping to get some time with him before she has to leave
38. Eliza is finally able to get some sleep and is grateful she doesn’t have the dream. She starts talking to Dr. Chaudney about the difference between a god and different dimensions. She slips into a vision if her dream. When she comes back, she realizes she is the one that destroys dimensions.
39. Scarab, she teen of the Stelians, has found the mage he has come to kill. She makes herself invisible as does Carnassial. She finds Akiva and is surprised he is a warrior because mages usually don’t have to use weapons. She is ready to cut his thread. It is the duty of the Stelians that benefits the entire world. She is surprised when he thinks she is Karou. When Karou does arrive, he puts her behind him to protect her. Scarab mentally tells Nightengale her daughter’s (Festival) son is alive. Carnassial suggests they leave before Akiva kills them. They retreat.
40. Scarab decides to stay to see what is going on in the caves with the mixed races. She gives Nightingale her privacy to deal with the news. She watches the interactions between Chimera, humans, and Misbegotten. Zuzana is nervous about Liraz coming with them instead of Akiva. Their plan is to get Jael back to Eretz to save Earth. The war will then continue and hopefully end. Karou is sad she won’t have the chance to say goodbye to Akiva. He kept insisting someone had been in the room with them and she didn’t doubt him. She doesn’t want them to kill all the warriors on the other side. Liraz suggests they cut off the three fingers on the dominent hand that would prevent them from fighting. The Shadows that Live would disable as many as they can. Akiva is going to try to get the soldiers that remain in Eretz to mutiny against Jael. Karou goes the check on the scouts, but one is missing. They have to assume they are dead.
41. The sky over the Stelian homeland is continuing to darken. Melliel and the other prisoners are left alone because the Stelians do not have time to take care of them or worry about the wars. Eidolon tries to hold the sky together. Scarab watches the rebels and doesn’t bother to warn them.
42. The remaining Seraph start to attack. Thiago tells Karou and Akiva that they need to go immediately. She tells Thiago to keep someone hidden to glean souls for resurrection. He tells Akiva to take them to the portal and make sure it isn’t guarded. Liraz watches Thiago as he launches himself gracefully into the air and starts killing enemy Seraph. She trusts him because he shared his secret with her and offered her a knife to kill him afterwards. She is grateful he saved her life. She follows after Akiva and the others for the portal. When they get to the portal, Karou tries to say goodbye to Akiva while Liraz yell for her to go. Liraz tells Akiva he has to live and kicks him through the portal after Karou. She seals it behind him.
43. Akiva is shocked at what happened. Karou asks him if he wants to get to the other portal and back to Eretz, but it would take too long and the battle would be over by the time they get there. They have to continue on with their mission. They hear helicopters and Karou wonders what they are doing out in the middle of the desert. Suddenly, the realizes the humans have found the casbah. The scientists at the casbah not how neatly this occurrence is fitting into the western world’s view: angels in time and demons in the Middle East.
44. The newscasters show the images of the dead Chimera saying it is their job to report what’s going on. Ziri is stabbed through the heart at the exact same time. He hadn’t had time to assign someone to the task of gleaning souls. Morgan had used Eliza’s phone to find out she was raised in a cult of people that believed they were descendants of angels. He told them she was the prophet that was said to have been murdered by them seven years ago. The news announces this and shows a picture. Morgan basks in the glory of his ability to take down Eliza.
45. Akiva and Karou are devistated that their chances of preventing the knowledge of the chimera as “beasts” or demons was over. Akiva offers to burn the bodies, but Karou thinks that would make things worse. she knows they have to get out of the sun and says she knows where they can go to recharge and use the internet to find Jael.
46. Morgan drafts the letter that he is positive will take down Eliza. He uses large words and thinks he should probably dumb it down to sound more like Eliza, but decides against it. He writes a letter as her saying that she was a prophet raised in a cult descended from angels.
47. Dr. Chaudary is upset that Eliza didn’t tell him who she was. He asks her if she sent in the mail. She points out the language used in the correspondence and that it is not the way she talks. She tries to tell him she is not that person anymore. She left that place. She knows Morgan is behind all of it.
48. Zuzana and Mik go to the restaurant in the hotel and order food enough for 20 people. Zuzana is disappointed they don’t have chocolate cake, but decides it is not a big deal after what they have just gone through. She thinks about how she would like to take the people that deserve it to the healing waters in the Kirin caves. Eliza has a vacant look in her eyes and keeps speaking. The driver in the car thinks she is possessed. When he slams on the breaks, she is thrown against the seat and knocked unconscious onto the floor. He goes to check on her, but as soon as she wakes up, she keeps speaking in a language he has never heard before. Karou has found that Jael is in Rome from her fake Grandmother. When room service knocks on their door to deliver the food, Zuzana makes Karou, Akiva, and Virko hide in the bathroom rather than just making themselves invisible. She enjoys arranging them so Karou and Akiva are stuck in the bathtub together.
49. Razgut is not being cooperative. Jael tries to convince him he that if he behaves he will ask the Stelians to restore his body. Razgut says his only interest is in going home. Jael tells him he can try to arrange it, but Razgut knows he can never go back home.
50. Karou and Akiva are in the bathtub together and trying not to touch. They talk about how both of the myths of their creation aren’t very good. They remember how they had created their own. They start to ease and don’t mind touching each other how. Suzana calls that the food is ready and they leave the bathroom but stay close. They just start eating when they hear two men arguing and a woman yelling in Seraph.
51. The driver drags Eliza out of the car and tries to dump her on the hotel manager who says he cannot take her. They are arguing in Arabic. Meanwhile, Eliza is still speaking in Seraph. Zuzana goes out and scolds the men in French because it is the most known language in Morocco. Eliza mentions someone, but neither Akiva nor Karou know who it is. They take Eliza in to help her. When they leave, no one sees them or knows what happened to them.
52. Morgan is basking in the glory of what he has done to Eliza and sends a reply to the people that have been texting her assuming it is her horrible mother. She scolds who she thinks is Elizabeth for the flippant and sarcastic attitude. Gabriel catches Morgan with Eliza’s phone and realizes he is the one that revealed her secret and possibly ruined her life. When Morgan refuses to give up the phone, Gabriel kicks the chair out from under him and takes hit. He promises to prove he was behind it all and won’t feel bad if it ruins his life. Razgut tries to convince Hael to except help from a wealthy lady, but he is reluctant if her conditions.
53. Zuzana and Mik arrive at a Fancy hotel in Rome and the employees rudely try to explain they are full and don’t allow backpackers in. Zuzana glares at her and tells her they are staying in the royal Suite.
54. Karou has had a chance to get washed up and changed. While Akivw is trying to talk to Elizabeth, Karou is talking with her fake grandmother, Ester, who used a rare wish to achieve a long life. When Zuzana and Mik arrive, Zuzana points out that when the portals were first burned shut, Karou had come to her for help and she had told her silage hadn’t had any wishes left, but was lying. The old woman admits it. She thought she wouldn’t get a chance to get anymore wishes. She asks if Karou has found Brimstone and Karou tells her brimstone is dead. While Zuzana wants to tell the old woman off, Karou tells her and Mik to go get cleaned up. There are new clothes waiting for them.
55. Time is running out. Zuzana is not happy that she and Mik have to stay behind while Karou and the others are going to confront Jael and then face war back in Eretz. She tells Karou to live and find her way back. Karou doesn’t make any promises, but Zuzana acts like she has. When they are gone, Zuzana and Mik use Ester’s TV and laptop to try to keep up with what is going on.
56. Ester gave them directions to find Jael. When they leave, she goes to make a call. Alika, Virgo, and Karou make their way into the building where Ester told them Jael would be. They stay hidden and quietly knock out the guards. Karou texts Zuzana before they continue.
57. A knock at the door puts everyone on high alert. Zuzana tries to keep watch on her phone, the laptop, the TV and the sky. Ester tells them to gather their things as she goes to answer the door. Mik tells her to pack her bag. Ester is throwing them out. She had only allowed them to stay for Karou’s sake. Zuzana realizes Ester had done something to betray Karou. Ester says she has chosen her allies as the seraph since Brimstone is dead. Ester tells her that when Karou dies, her belongings willl go to Ester, her next of kin. She alows Miknti take his violin. She sends Eliza with them. Zuzana promises she will get her back for this. They are escorted out. They have no way to warn Karou that Jael already knows they are coming. They go into the crowd to blend in and Mik says they have to hide because Ester will come after them.
58. Akiva and Karou sneak though the building. Karou wishes she had her necklace of guppie wishes. Razgut finds them and the Dominion soldiers surround them.
59. Ester finds a violin in her bathtub and falls to her knees in defeat. Zuzana is worried about Karou. She notices Mik’s violin case is too heavy. He opens it to reveal medallions with Brimstones head on them. Ester had lied about using all her wishes.
60. Karou and Akiva are surrounded by 30 Dominion soldiers. Karou realizes Ester must have sold them out. Karl appears and starts talking to Akiva about the curse of his name and how defiant his mother was.
61. Zuzana and Mik each hold a wish and try to think of the perfect way to phrase their wishes so they can be useful in the fighting part of the war. They realize they cannot leave Eliza in her own as she is and wishes for her to be in complete control of herself.
62. Akiva says the name Haxia and the battle starts. In three seconds, there is a knife to Jael’s throat. Haxia is there and Akiva says her name. Karou hadn’t realized the therval with her soul in it was still attached to her belt until Eliza had said her name. They decided to give her a chance to make up for her betrayal when she was in Ten’s body. Akiva tells the others they can all go home. The decision dirsn’t have to be up to Jael. They can decide to let him live or die. Razgut is the only one who speaks. He throws a knife and it lands in Akiva’s heart.
63. Karou is frozen.
64. The knife goes through Akiva and into the wall. Karou checks Razgut for anymore weapons. He scorches a black handprint into Jael and tells him he can leave immediately and take nothing back to Eretz. If he agrees, Akiva promises he will never burn him. He doesn’t promise that Jael will see him coming. He makes himself invisible. Karou makes herself invisible. Akiva expands the invisibility until Jael seems to be standing alone.
65. Eliza dreams of the Seraph home world, Maries. Razgut was there and found himself paying in comparison to her. The Seraph had decided to attempt spreading their tribes over different worlds. They opened up portals not realizing how wrong it was. The Stelians could have told them, but were too busy picking out their chosen ones. The beast came to their world and started attacking. They sealed off as many portals as they could, but the Caticlism came.
66. Eliza wakes up from her dreams to find Zuzana and Mik watching over her. Zuzana speaks in English and apologizes for the wish they made to bring her back to herself. They didn’t know what was wrong with her, so they had to keep their wish fairly generic. Eliza thought growing wings was just a dream, but she finds it really has happened. She looks around and sees she is somehow in Italy. She is not a descendent of an angel, she is one. Zuzana also warns her that her shirt has been torn up.
67. Akiva and Jarou are invisible as they watch the dominion make their way to the portal to return to Eretz. They find each other and start kissing and intertwining their bodies.
68. Razgut is tossed out before the angels start to make their departure. He is to be left alone to continue his 1000 years in isolation. He will feel as each of his kind die, but won’t be able to himself. Ester calls a prominent company to have Mik and Zuzana found. She is shocked when the angels leave without any warning. They had promised her mining rights in their world in exchange for Karou. She goes to where they were staying and find Jael’s room. Razgut wraps himself around her shoulders and tells her she will never be alone again.
69. The angels go through the portal and burn it shut behind them. Zuzana and Mik plan to go back to Prague. Eliza says she has maps and memories from 1000 years and lifetimes. She knows where there is another portal. Suzana wants to know where it was.
70. Jael, back in Eretz, goes back to his force’s camps. At the palace, the burned and stained banner with the white wolf emblem flies with Chimera words on it. They see Thiago’s body hanging from a noose. Karou feels she has failed her kind and friends.
71. Karou goes to Thiago’s body and tries to remember her time with Ziri. She cannot feel anything left in the body.
72. Jael arrives in his office and is surprised to see Liraz sitting at his desk. He is horrified to learn that his army lost the war. Once the fighting started with the Misbegotten and Chimera mixed squads, many of the Dominion soldiers fled or just dropped to the ground and stopped fighting. Jael realizes what has happened and begs Liraz to kill him, but she refuses. She reminds him that she once asked him to kill her alongside her brothers and he refuses saying it was sweater that she begged for death.
73. When Karou goes to Thiago’s body, she cannot feel anything of Ziri left. Liraz tells her she was the one that hung up Thiago’s body like that to make Jael think he had won. They cut down the body. Liraz says she found him in a ravine and didnm5 know how to glean his soul. She opened up her canteen and sung to him. Karou opens the canteen and can sense his soul inside. They hug and cry together in relief. Karou realizes Ziri found someone to give his soul to and so did Liraz.
74. Karou and Akiva discuss how they hope the world stays “boring” as they change and get away from lives of constant war. The Seraph want Akiva to go to the capital to refocus their efforts. However, he tells them he has other commitments. He plans to go with Karou and help her glean souls from the cathedral in Lorimendi. He doesn’t care how long it takes as long as he gets to be with Karou. The others see his kind is made up and stop arguing with him.
75. A group of Chimera and Misbegotten head to the lair in caves on their way to the cathedral. When they stop, Akiva and Karou are tense and wanting to be alone finally.
76. Karou gets what she needs to finish Ziri’s body as close to his original as possible. She asks Liraz for the tip of his horn so she can include it. She asks if Liraz would like to join her, but Liraz goes to take over on guard duty instead.
77. Ziri approaches Liraz and they are happy to see each other. Both are nervous and Liraz curses herself for having trouble forming sentences. He says he has missed flying since he didn’t have wings when he was the white wolf. He offers for her to join him and she does
78. Karou anxiously waits for Akiva by the healing pools, but he never comes.
79. Ziri and Liraz are out flying when they spot a seraph flying alongside a storm hunter. They can see Zuzana and Mik riding the storm hunter and are shocked.
80. Akiva has gone to seek out the presence he has felt in the cave earlier. He hears two women discussing his fate. His grandmother tells the queen, Scarsb to leave him be. He approaches them to find out what is going on. Scarab says she has decided to spare his life even though he has done horrible things to them. Akiva asks the. What he has done because he has no idea. He has never been near his mother’s family. Nightengale points out he doesn’t know what he has done. He asks what he has done.
81. Zuzana and Mik have been refraining from using the wishes. Anything Zuzana thinks they can learn themselves, she will not let them make a wish to learn. They had given Eliza a wish to get back at Morgan Toth. She wished he would grow a hitler mustache every hour for a month. Zuzana enjoyed this wish and did the same for Ester. They make their way to Patagonia where the final portal is. It lands them in the nesting place of the stormhunters. Mik had used his new violin to play for them and the giant birds liked the music. When they see LIraz and Ziri, they tell them to go get Karou. Karou ends up coming out of the caves and tells them Akiva is gone.
82. Akiva is shown memories to explain what he has done. He is shown how his mother went to Jorem willingly because she knew it was what she was supposed to do. Akiva needed to be brought into being. Akiva took without tithing three times. The tithe does not need to be pain as he had been taught, but the energy taken has to be replaced. Sirithar is the energy that keeps the worlds in order. He shouldn’t have been able to take it without tithing. The tithe required for how much he took should have killed a hundred times over. They came to kill him because it shouldn’t have been possible (no one else can do it) and it thins the veil. That is what brings about the Cataclysm. Scarab tells Nightengale to tell him about it and how they work to prevent it.
83. Karou uses Gabriel to find out where Akiva is.
84. Scarab tells Akiva about the Cataclysm. The dark monsters, Nithilam, claw at the divide. The Stelians keep them bottled up and from destroying all of the worlds. She shows him Meliz, home of the Seraph, and how it had fallen. They feel their fate is to go fight off those monsters now that they have Akiva. At first he tells them he can’t go with them, but ultimately, he realizes he has to and says he will. Karou and the others arrive at the cave to hear him say he will go with the Stelians.
85. Karou is surprised at what she sees. The Stelians are clearly where Akiva came from. When Liraz offers to fight for Akiva’s freedom, he tells her Scarab was the one that came to their aid in the war against the Dominion. Akiva asks Nightingale to show them what is going on and she does as Scarab had done for him. Eliza adds to the visions and Scarab and Nightingale are surprised to meet another from Meliz. She explains that some myths are actually prophecies. Bright warriors coming from a far world to fight the monsters. Akiva and Karou hold each other because they know they will be parting soon. Akiva to go fight the dark monsters and Karou to resurrect the Chimera. Scarab declares there will be godstars.
EPILOGUE
