Vampire Kisses 1
Ellen Schreiber
1. Raven grew up with hippie parents that spoiled her in monster movies and twinkies. When her brother, Billy, was born, they moved into a house and her parents started to replace their hippie decor with updated decorations and furniture. Raven didn’t want to go to school and was horrified when her parents told her she had to go back every day. Her teacher asked what each of them wanted to be when they grew up, and Raven said a vampire. When the school bully (whose father owns most of the land in their town) bites Raven at recess, she thinks she can fly and tries to launch herself from the swing. She cries because she didn’t gain any vampire powers from the bite. When the bully comes by to tease her, she calls him a name and gets sent inside.
2. Dullsville is what Raven calls her hometown. Her best friend Becky is a farm girl from the other side of the tracks and they became friends when both of their mom’s were late picking them up one day. Becky cried and Raven reassured her that her mom would be along soon. When Becky’s mom showed up, Becky invited Raven to play at her house that weekend. Raven would become her best friend and body guard as people liked to pick on shy Becky. When RAven’s family took a trip to New Orleans, Raven’s mom took her to see Anne Rice’s house. A car pulled up to bring Anne home and Raven was able to get an autograph and have her picture taken with her favorite author. Later, she found the picture would not come out.
3. Raven is woken up by her little brother on her 16th birthday. She comes out of her room to find her mom has made her cake for later that night. She gives her a present and Ragen is disappointed to find a pearl necklace inside the box. When Becky comes over, she gives her a bag with a bat necklace they Raven loves. Becky tells her that someone is finally moving into the empty mansion. They head off to school together. Trevor and Matt try to tease them in gym class, but Raven takes it all in stride. She threatens to crash their party so they will have someone interesting show up, and Trevor tells her to come. Becky thinks it is a trap, but Raven plans to be the one to make it a night to remember.
4. The mansion on top of the hill had been vacant and boarded up for a long time. When Raven was 12, she was getting ready to go inside when she met a teenage boy who was dated to go in by his friends. She goes in first and he follows. She takes his hat with her to go find him a suvinour to take back to his friends. She waves his hat outside the boarded up window to show them he made it in. When they get out, he realizes he doesn’t have anything from the house. She gives him her necklace and he thanks her. He takes his prize back to his friends and becomes popular. He always smiles at Raven when he sees her. But word got around that he had been in the house and the police increased their patrols around the area, so Raven couldn’t go back in.
5. On their walk home from school, Taven and Becky see a light on in the mansion attic and a Mercedes in the driveway. Raven is excited, but Becky presses her to keep moving because she wants to go to Matt’s party. Raven realizes she’s best friend has a crush on Matt and Becky confirms. After dinner, Becky drives them to the party. Matt offers to show them where the beer is, but Becky dives into the bathroom to avoid him. Raven goes to the kitchen where Trevor is drunk and starts hitting on her. She lets him kiss her and she leads him out to the woods. She asks if they are now “going together” and he agrees to whatever she says. She takes him far enough into the woods that he can’t see and takes his clothes. She tells him she is undressing, but instead runs back to the house with the clothes. She puts them in a trash bag and finds Becky telling her they have to go. She fills in Becky when they get in the car. As they are driving home, a bit dressed in all black appears in the road and Becky has to slam on her breaks. Raven gets out to checks and thinks there is blood on the fender, but nobody’s there. She looks around and finds it was a can of paint that was spilled. As they drive off, Raven sees the attic light turn on.
6. The stories of naked Trevor stay to circulate around the school. Raven starts to return Trevor’s clothes by hanging them on her locker one by one with notes. The girls around her start to look at her with respect. Many of them had been embarrassed by Trevor and his promises of relationships. He threatens her, but she pretends not to worry about the threat. When he grabs her face in his hands, Matt tells him to let her go. She glues his underwear to her locker and gets sent to the principal. He is upset she defaced school property and embarrassed an honor roll student. Raven points out how the principal, Frank, didn’t seem to care when Trevor had embarrassed honor roll girls. He tries to get her to join a club for a sense of belonging, but she declines. He tells her to try to stay out of his office and she says she won’t make him work too hard.
7. For Halloween, Raven dresses up as a tennis player and shocks the whole school. Even Trevor is left staring speechless. That night, Raven and Becky go trick-or-treating and save the mansion for last. There is a long line and Raven’s brother tells her she will love the creepy manner the door. The door closes and no one answers when Raven knocks. Becky begs to go home and Raven tells her to go ahead. When the door finally opens, Raven meets the creepy man who tells her they are out of candy. She keeps him from shutting the door on her and gives him a few of her own favorite treats from her own pail. As she is heading home, Matt pulls up with Trevor jumping out to talk to her. She likes his vampire costume and lets him kiss here (ugh! Why?!?). He then spills her candy all over he yard and takes what he can. She yells at him, but he just pulls out a can of spray paint and starts heading back up to the mansion. She begs him to leave the house alone, but when he doesn’t listen, she uses her tennis racket to hit the paint can away. The door opens and the gothic guy is standing there dressed in all black. They look at each other before Raven takes off running. She gets in Matt’s car and tells him to drive her home before she calls the cops and tells them he was involved. She is relieved when he starts driving and they leave Trevor behind.
8. The next day at school, Trevor ignores Raven’s comments. She sees the butler from the mansion in the office with her dad’s tennis racket and pulls Trevor over to listen in. The secretary says they will make an announcement. He thanks her and says he will hold onto the racket, the girl will know where to go to get it back. Raven thinks it’s a trap, but Trevor doesn’t care because all the evidence points to her. Raven is Corrie’s she may have alienated herself from the only people in town that might be like her.
9. Raven’s dad makes her get a job to pay him back for the tennis racket she lost. He knows the owner of the travel agency and she gets the job and is less than thrilled about the “no black” dress code. Her mom buys her work appropriate attire and she changes into it after school before walking to work. Trevor sees her and starts to follow. He realizes she had to get a job and starts making fun of her. Matt pulls up and scolds him for not being where he was supposed to be because now they are late. They take off and Raven is late for her first day of work.
10. Raven hates her job, but she likes one of the travel agents, Ruby. When the creepy butler from the mansion arrives, Raven goes to the copier to avoid him seeing and recognizing her. He talks to Ruby orders two tickets for Romania and explains the boy will be staying home with him. Ruby asks about him being in school and the man explains he has always been homeschooled. He asks for a town map, but there isn’t one available. When he leaves, Raven asks Ruby if she believes in vampires. She doesn’t, but tells Raven about several strange things that have happened to her and people she knows. Just because she doesn’t currently believe it, doesn’t mean it isn’t real.
11. Raven has Becky come over to ask her to be lookout while she sneaks into the mansion while the butler is away on his weekly grocery shopping trip. Becky is apprehensive.
12. When she has finally earned enough to pay back her father, Raven says goodbye to Ruby and quits her job. She is in a good mood until she finds her father’s racket tapped to her locker. She rips it off and goes off to find Trevor. He is out back with his friends getting ready for soccer practice to start. She tells him he must love her because he won’t leave her alone. The argument is very convincing and his friends don’t back him up. When he goes to hit her, his friends step in and hold him back. Matt and the goalie step in front of Raven to protect her. The coach blows his whistle to get them all started practicing.
13. Raven tries to help Becky over the gate, but she is too scared to go over. Raven climbs over and tells Becky to go home. She finds an open window into the basement and goes in. She finds watercolor paintings and takes some pictures before going upstairs. Everything seems normal and she goes up another flight of stairs to the library. She can hear the boy’s music in the attic. When it stops, she knows it is time to leave and heads for the front door. The lock starts to turn when she gets to it and she hides behind the curtains. The butler announces his return and that the groceries would be delivered the next day. When he is gone, Raven heads for the front door again. The boy sees her and tries to signal that he won’t hurt her. She takes off running and gets back over the gate.
14. Raven’s little brother has the letter the butler delivered for her. He gives it to her only after she has promised to stop calling him “Nerd Boy” and to use his name, Billy. She agrees and he gives her the letter. It is an invitation to dinner at 8pm on 12/1.
15. Raven doesn’t tell her parents about the invitation knowing they wouldn’t let her go. However, on the morning of 12/1, her father announces Raven will be in charge of the house while they fly out to Las Vegas for their anniversary. They expect her to watch her little brother while they are gone. After they leave, Raven has Becky come over to watch Billy. She borrows Becky’s truck and drives over to the mansion. The butler, Jameson welcomes her in. Goth boy, Alexander, brings her flowers and they eat dinner. While they talk, they find they have a lot in common and find each other fascinating. The more Alexander tells h r about himself, the more convinced Raven is that he is a vampire. When Jameson brings them dessert, they take it outside and eat by candlelight. When they are done, they lie in the grass to look at the moon and stars. She wants him to kiss her, but he doesn’t. When the clock chimes midnight, she tells him she has to get home before her dad calls. He kisses her cheek and promises to invite her again. Raven rushes home. Becky has been able to stall her dad on the phone and finally hands it over to Raven who says they have been watching vampire movies.
16. The next day, Raven and Becky go out for ice cream. Trevor and Matt see them. Trevor makes fun of Raven and the. Asks him to the Snow Ball dance at school. She tells him she already has a date. He steals her ice cream and takes off with Matt who has been annoyed with him the entire time. The next few days feel like torture to Raven, but Alexander calls her and asks her to go out the next night. She is happy to accept, but chickens out about asking him to go to the dance with her.
17. Raven and Alexander meet at the gate to his house. He has a bag with him as says they are going to have a picnic. He takes her to the cemetery and they climb over the gate to get in. He takes her up the hill to his grandmother’s grave. They start talking more, but the caretaker and his dog come around and they have to run to get away from them. Raven asks to see his room, but he’s against it. When she asks why? He asks to see her room and she understands. He walks her home and they agree to watch Dracula at his house the next night. When her mom opens the door, Alexander hides in the bushes and their first date ends.
18. The next night, Raven shows up at the mansion early and Alexander welcomes her in. He brings her to the living room where he has set everything up like a movie theater. As they watch the movie, Alexander pulls her attention to him and kisses her. He moves down her neck, but Raven spills a drink and the popcorn and makes him jump and bite her neck. Raven passes out for a second and Alexander apologizes when she comes to. He neck has a bit of a bruise, but no blood is drawn. As Alexander is walking her out, Raven asks him to go tot he dance with her and he agrees to go. The next day, Becky helps Raven test to see if she is becoming a vampire, but she is clearly still human. A few days before the dance, Trevor makes a point of telling Raven he knows she has been hanging out at the mansion. He threatens to beat up Alexander if he sees him. The principal pulls Trevor aside to talk sports. Becky begs Raven not to go to the dance because she is afraid of what Trevor will do if she does. Raven promises she can handle Trevor if he tries to do anything to Becky.
19. Raven dresses up for the dance and tells her parents she is going with Alexander. When he arrives, they insist on meeting him. Raven welcomes him in and after a few minutes, they are off to the dance. They start off having a great time doing normal teenager things. When Trevor arrives with his date, Becky, he immediately goes up to Raven and Alexander. He tells Alexander that the only reason Raven was interested in him was because she believed the rumors he started that the Sterlings were vampires. Alexander pulls Raven outside and demands the truth. She admits she snuck into the mansion to disprove the rumors and got caught up in her own imagination. She apologizes, but Alexander is furious that she used him and leaves. Raven goes back inside to tell everyone that Trevor is the real monster and they misjudged both him and Alexander. She runs out and tries to get Alexander to answer the door, but she eventually the lights go out. Raven sits in the mansion stairs crying.
20. Raven stays home from school the next few days. Her mom gives her a pep talk and points out how much Alexander liked her. She knows Raven was nice to him and it showed the night of the dance when they met him. A few days later, her dad drags her out of bed to go play tennis. She does awful hitting the ball as if it were Trevor’s face. When they get lunch, her father warns her about not trying to kill the ball when it comes into her court again. As they are getting ready to leave, Matt finds her and tells her that she ended up changing the way a lot of people saw Trevor with what she said at the dance. He admires her. Her dad introduces her to Jack (snuck into the mansion with her) and they admit they already know each other. Jack says he is Matt’s cousin and just moved back to town. He tells Raven to stop by the store he works at anytime.
21. Raven is wallowing in self pity when Becky comes to her door. Raven tells her to go away, but Becky insists they have to get to the mansion right away. Raven gets dressed in a hurry worrying they someone has done something to the mansion. They park about a block away because of the crowd. They go to find there is a party to welcome the Sterlings to towns. Her parents planned it and Matt had the idea of everyone dressing in black. He tells her Alexander has been waiting on her all night. She goes inside and finds his attic door unlocked. She thinks better of snooping and starts to head back downstairs when he appears. He shows her his art work and tells hey make up. They go out to join the party and Trevor shows up. He is upset the entire town has showed up. Raven’s dad calmly sends him away. Later that night, Becky tells Raven that Matt is giving them a ride home. Raven goes to say goodbye to Alexander and they kiss. She pulls out her compact to check her lipstick and he says goodnight in the doorway. He is not reflected in her mirror. She tries to ask questions, but he closes the door and goes up to his attic window. The light goes out.
22. That night, Raven is up late thinking about her future and what it would mean for Alexander to make her a vampire. The next day, she goes to the mansion and finds it empty with the furniture covered by sheets. She reaches for the loose brick and finds a note from Alexander that says “because I love you.” A bat appears on the porch. She questions out loud if it is Alexander and it flies away.
